Apple sue Amazon over “Appstore”

Since Amazon started selling apps for Android powered mobile phones, they have used the term “Appstore” much to the annoyance of Apple, who have now filed a legal complaint in the Californian courts.

According to Apple, “Amazon has begun improperly using Apple’s App Store mark in connection with Amazon’s mobile software developer program.”

It added: “Customers of mobile software downloads are likely to be confused as to whether Amazon’s mobile software download service is sponsored or approved by Apple.”

Currently Apple is seeking the courts to force Amazon to stop using the term and they will be seeking compensation too!

When asked, an Amazon representative said, that the company would not make any comments on pending legal issues.

Apple have been using the term App Store for almost three years, but even Microsoft have tried the courts to challenge the Apple claim to ownership of the term, this is with the US Trademark Appeal Board.
