Robots Flying in Formation

This is supposed to be a cool idea that is coming out of The General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) Lab based at the University of Pennsylvania, haven’t they seen Terminator Salvation?

Well they have managed to get these Quadotors to fly in formation, it is a simple task apparently, as the other robots merely have to follow their leader, which they clearly can do very easily because they are robots and need to be told what to do.

This is what the GRASP Lab had to say about these synchronised flying robots;

The University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP Lab, famous for those crazy quadrotors that can fly through windows and hula hoops, has been working on getting groups of the robots to fly together in formation. Just like with a formation of fighter jets, there is a leader robot in each squad along with several follower robots. The followers have just two jobs: follow the leader, and preserve the shape of the formation.

This is cool tech, there is no doubt about it, but will all of these different robots being developed and evil one is bound to turn up sooner or later, then we are in trouble!
