There is a reduction in the bee population and there is no doubt about that, but what is the cause? As of yet there is no definitive reason as to why this would be happening, but the current leaning is towards the increase use of mobile phones!
However, the idea that a mobile phone can kill a bee outright simply cannot be right! However, what they may be doing is interfering with the bee’s natural navigation skills causing them to fly off course and eventually get lost.
According to Daniel Favre, a former biologist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
“The induction of honeybee worker piping by the electromagnetic fields of mobile phones might have dramatic consequences in terms of colony losses due to unexpected swarming,”
However, there is no actual proof that using a mobile phone has any effect on the bee population
“Further confirmation of the current results and their implications regarding a direct correlation between erratic honeybee behaviour and mobile phone-generated electromagnetic fields would substantiate one more explanation for the “disappearance” of bee colonies around the world.” he concluded.
Clearly, there is more work needed on this issue, one thing is for sure the mobile phone has been blamed for so many things since its introduction, is wiping out the bee population just another accusation being thrown at a technology that we simply cannot do without?
