The twenty three year old owner on TVShack.net, Richard O’Dwyer, is facing extradition to US on copyright infringement charges, in relation to his website that offers users access to films and videos that can be viewed online.
The student from Sheffield Hallam University has already appeared in front of magistrates in Westminster, where he was bailed to return on the 12th September. In the meantime, he is not allowed to access the site or register any new domain names.
Currently anyone wanting to see the TVShack.net site will be presented by an image that states the domain has been seized by the US authorities.
According to Julia O’Dwyer, the mother of the computer science student, from Bolsover in Derbyshire;
“To me he’s just a geeky boy, who sits in his room messing on his computer. Let’s hope our government can bring some common sense to bear to put an end to such unnecessary, yet deeply traumatic, extradition demands. We have a perfectly good justice system in the UK – why aren’t we using it in cases such as this?”
