Runners Could Power Street Lights

Imagine how money and energy could be saved if foot power of joggers and runners could be utilised to power street and traffic lights. The savings in money and the environmental benefits would be off the scale, if only there was a way of doing this!

This concept idea from Nadim Inaty is called the Green Wheel; it is a bit like a human sized version of those hamster wheels that people put inside cages. The only difference here is that as the wheel turns a dynamo creates energy, in fact, it is estimated that thirty minutes of running would produce around 120 watts, which is enough to power a light for just five hours.

You can see the problem here, the idea is sound, but the technology is just not up to producing a significant amount of power to justify the initial outlay required and maintenance of the Green Wheels.
