Back in 2009 Apple applied for the patent on unlocking a Smartphone or tablet device with a swipe or gesture action, which is something that users of Apple products will be fully used to.
Over two years down the line and US Patent Office have finally award the patent to Apple, but since then other Smartphone’s such as those using the Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating systems are also using this type of feature.
According to Apple’s patent – US patent number 7657549 – the application stated;
“A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display.
It continues by stating;
“The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device.”
This looks like a new avenue for Apple to use in its long running battle with rival firms and in particular Google over the Android operating system.
