There has been plenty of research recently on the security for social network users and in particular, the users of Facebook, where it is claimed that socialbots, which is software capable of posing as a real person, can steal a user’s personal data after posing as friends.
Naturally the social network is defending this situation, as they sent out their own socialbots to users to see what happened and over three thousand users accepted the friendship request out of over eight and half thousand, so clearly there is an issue with users just accepting anyone as a friend.
According to a Facebook spokesperson;
“We have serious concerns about the methodology of the research by the University of British Colombia and we will be putting these concerns to them and that it also encourages people to report any suspicious behaviour on the website.”
