It seems that the Steam game service run by Valve, has been attacked by hackers and although there is no evidence one way or the other that data has been taken, it is possible that credit card and other data belonging to the thirty five million users could have been compromised. The company is in the process of contacting users on the database to inform them that intruders could have accessed their user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing information and encrypted credit card information!
Valve co-founder Gabe Newell as he spoke about this problem;
“While there is evidence of a deeper intrusion, the company is not yet requiring all Steam users to reset their account passwords, which are separate from forum accounts. I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologise for the inconvenience,”
