Following a multimillion pound deal with US tech giant IBM, the City of Sunderland is getting ready to offer businesses access to cloud computing services, while at the same time the Council will be able to use the cloud services too! Once this work has been completed, it will mean that Sunderland could be the only UK city with a hundred per cent superfast broadband coverage, the work is due to be completed sometime in early 2012.
According to the City council leader Coun Paul Watson he spoke about the project and said;
“We have a good reputation in Sunderland for innovation in both the public and private sector.”
“In the current climate, it’s vital local authorities like us use our own assets to not only improve services, but stimulate economic growth for the benefit of the whole city.”
“The Sunderland Cloud is a cornerstone of our economic masterplan. The new Cloud infrastructure will lay the foundations of an even smarter Sunderland, one that ensures the city continues to be internationally recognised as a forward-thinking city and a prime location for inward investment.”
