Imagine sitting there watching Dr Who tackle the latest threat from the Daleks, when suddenly a Dalek appears and is apparently moving in tandem to what’s going on in the show. This is new technology being developed by the BBC as way to bring TV show closers to the audience, whether they are in the studio or even at home!
The technology being used in the trail is called “Universal Control” and they have been testing out with an existing episode of the science fiction series. It brings a new meaning to 3D, when the characters are actually moving in and around the audience.
According to the Project director Adrian Woolard, he said;
“It’s a playful illustration that shows the possibilities that exist to producers when we start to think about future connectivity in a home environment in which all devices will be IP (internet) connected.
What does this have to offer the viewing;
“Effectively this puts another actor in the living room, enabling a production team to write a script and include it as part of the viewer’s experience.”
