A worm designed to attack social networks has been at work in the UK, so far it is estimated that anything between thirty and fifty thousand usernames and passwords have been harvested by a new variation of the Ramnit worm.
However it seems that the data may not be getting the hackers anywhere fast as it is believed that most of the data taken is actually out of date, but it should serve as warning to all users of social networking sites that this worm is out there!
According to a statement put out by the social network;
“Our security experts have reviewed the data, and while the majority of the information was out of date, we have initiated remedial steps for all affected users to ensure the security of their accounts,”
Effectively, Facebook say that those accounts effect by this issue have a security roadblock in place;
“Account activity is locked down until they pass through this roadblock, where they must reset their password,”
So, if you are having to re-enter your user details again, now you know why!
