DARPA Funds Cheetah Robot Project

Trust DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) to pour money into project like this fast running robot, it is scary and crazy all at the same time and yet the technology is totally awesome too. This robot can reach speeds of around 18 mph, which means it can out run just about any human apart from Usain Bolt who can touch around 24 mph but for how long. The Cheetah has been developed by Boston Dynamics, who think that a top speed of 30 mph is possible in the future.

These are the details on the running robot that nobody would like chasing them;

Cheetah is a new robot being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA’s Maximum Mobility and Manipulation program. Last week Cheetah set a new land speed record for legged robots, galloping 18 mph on the treadmill. This version of the Cheetah is a lab prototype with off board power and a boom that planarizes its motion. Testing on a free-running version of the Cheetah that will run ‘unplugged’ in the field starts later this year.
