The first 3D televisions that did not require the user to wear glasses were only available in small sizes, such as twelve and twenty inch versions. but today electronics giant Toshiba has a 55 inch monster and it can be bought exclusively for a short while from John Lewis’s flagship store in Oxford Street, London, although Harrods will also be stocking the ZL2 in a few days time.

There has been a lot of interest in 3D technology, but the glasses thing is a major turn off for people and that is where Toshiba are hoping to cash in first, but at £7,000 a go, is this a step too far or are there still consumers out there ready to part with big money for new technology?

According to the John Lewis website, this is what all the fuss is about;

The Toshiba 55ZL2B brings you stunning 2D and 3D images beyond 1080p quality in a slim-line package that looks every bit as good as it performs. Through powerful multi-core processing and Toshiba’s technical know-how, the 55ZL2B takes immersive 3D into your living room – without the hassle of glasses.

Priced at around £7,000
