Wikipedia Founder To Advise Government



The Founder of the sixth most visited website in the world, Wikipedia is to become an unpaid advisor to certain UK governments with a view of developing a plan that will help these departments create and manage innovative technologies. Jimmy Wales founded Wikipedia with Larry Sanger in 2001; his appointment was announced in a tweet by the new executive director for Transparency and Open Data, Tim Kelsey, his tweet read;


“#SXSW rohan announces that Jimmy Wales to advise uk gov on #CrowdGov”.



According to a government spokesman they said;


“Mr Wales will act as an unpaid adviser to Government to support its agenda to open up policy-making to the public.


They added;


“He will advise Government on developing innovative new ways technology can be used to give the public a greater say in the policy-making process.”
