The Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, has been producing whisky for more than three hundred years and now they are about to go where no distillery has gone before, the International Space Station (ISS), where experiments on malt will take place in order to see how it reacts in zero gravity. It is understood that the research could find out what the flavour of the future might be like!
According to Dr Bill Lumsden, who is the head of distilling and whisky creation at Ardbeg, he said;
“This experiment will throw new light on the effect of gravity on the maturation process.”
“We are all tremendously excited by this experiment – who knows where it will lead?”
