The £300 Solidoodle 3D Printer!

Before now the very thought of a buying 3D printer would also mean lots of cash, but not any longer as the former COO of MakerBot, Samuel Cervantes has come up with a fully functioning 3D printer that can easily produce components up to 6″ x 6″ x 6″ for around £300! Obviously, you need a computer to add to that, but it is an interesting starting point!

Here are the main specs for the Solidoodle 3D Printer;

Technology: Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) a.k.a Thermoplastic Extrusion

RepRap Sanguinololu v1.3a Electronics

Nichrome powered extruder

Extruder moves in XY, build platform moves in Z

Trouble-free custom acrylic extruder with stepper motor, .35mm nozzle

Spring loaded extruder drive virtually eliminates the need for adjusting the extruder – no thumb screws to adjust or release filament

Weight: 17 lbs

ABS filament recommended, but using PLA is possible

Accuracy: about .3mm (layer height) or 84dpi

Power Supply Works on US Voltage (120V) or European Voltage (240V)

Priced at around £308 ($500)

    Wow! £300 is an awesomely low price for such advanced technology…it’s definitely worth looking into one! I just need to think of a legitimate use i can use it for first :P
