We hear a lot about how easy it is for someone to put a drug into a drink in club or bar, but what about ways of preventing the victim from drinking it in the first place? Well it seems that Drink Savvy might have the right idea; their colour changing technology could indicate the presence of GHB, Ketamine and Rohypnol! The problem is this product is not ready for the market yet, which is why they turned to the crowd funding site Indiegogo for help and the good news is they have reached their goal!
According to the designers of Drink Savvy, this is how the system works;
The problem is that date rape drugs are odourless, colourless, and tasteless once they are in your drink. We all know not to leave our drinks unattended, but the reality is it is impossible to keep an eye on your drink all night. So what’s the solution? With the help of Dr. John MacDonald, a professor of chemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and with the help of Contract Researching Organizations, DrinkSavvy is developing material that will immediately change color to warn you if a drug is slipped into your drink.
This product will retail at around $20 (£13) for a pack of straws or $40 (£26) for pack of cups and straws.
