Around seventy million people around the world use sign language to communicate, this is fine if the person that they are trying to communicate with can understand what they are saying, otherwise it is just another language and the message is not getting through.
There is hope in the pipeline, from a start up called MotionSavvy they have the idea of using the technology available in tablet devices together with their clever software to make communicating through sign language easy for all. It works because the tablet is able translates the sign language into either text or voice.
However, it will also work the other way around, using the tablets built in microphone MotionSavvy is able to translate the voice into text. It might be slower than having a face to face conversation, but it is much better than struggling to get people to understand each.
MotionSavvy provides some common ground allowing those who use sign language as their primary method of communicating to speak to anyone and visa versa, this one idea that really could change the lives of millions of people forever and that is something that does not come along every day.
It is early days for MotionSavvy at the moment, so it is not available just yet. However, they have secured some investment and therefore it should be well on the way very soon and we cannot wait to see how this device progresses over the next few months.
