For cyclist visibility is a key to being safe on the road, but further to that is making sure that drivers behind you actually know exactly where you are going as changing lanes or turning into another road can often lead to confusion or even accidents. This is something that no road user wants to be involved in and yet it is all too often happening on all sorts of roads, in all sorts of locations. The Useeme system is simple enough as its two wrist bands with eleven built in LED’s in each.
These bright lights are activated through a motion detector installed into each wristband, so all the cyclist has to do is lift their arm to activate the LED’s and when they have made the move lowering the arm will switch the LED’s off. This allows the cyclist and other road user to get on their way with no hassle at all. Finally, the cyclist has a safe way of indicating to vehicle drivers behind them when they are turning and as the LED’s are bright orange they are just like a vehicles indicator system, which will get the drivers following attention as they are used to seeing this on other vehicles when they are getting ready to turn.
This is great idea and it is a surprise that we have not seen anything like this before as it provides cyclists with a means of riding on the road in traffic safely. It is better for other road users too, as they can clearly see where the cyclist is heading and they can take the appropriate action to ensure that they all get through without any hassle or accidents.
It is estimated that the Useeme wristbands will be going on sale this winter, but they can be currently pre ordered from just $34 a pair at the moment.
