Nintendo has been careful when it come to allowing its games to be turned into movies, but it seems that there may have been a change of heart within the company with plans of creating a film division. You might remember Metroid as a classic Nintendo game, but now it is also a short science fiction movie from Rainfall, its classic sci-fi at its best and well worth spending a few minutes sitting down in front the screen.
The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall’s most recent production. Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.
This movie is not up to the standard that you would expect to find in the cinema, but its good enough to show that Sam Balcomb knows what he is doing and that there is a market for this kind of movie.
