Buying stuff online is cool, for people like me and my online pals this is the only way to go shopping these days. However, there is an issue with this system and that is the delivery. Lucky for us we have the stuff delivered to the office, but that still means having to carry it home or waiting in all day long for the courier who may or may not turn up on the specified day. However, Amazon have been listening and their answer to this problem is Prime Air a drone delivery system that is able to get your stuff to you in around thirty minutes from pressing the buy button.
Amazon Prime Air is a future service that will deliver packages up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less using small drones. Flying under 400 feet and weighing less than 55 pounds, Prime Air vehicles will take advantage of sophisticated “sense and avoid” technology, as well as a high degree of automation, to safely operate beyond the line of sight to distances of 10 miles or more.
Naturally, Amazon have some hurdles to get over before this method of delivery is able to proceed, but now they have Jeremy Clarkson on board with an interesting video to introduce Prime Air to the general public. Is this the future of parcel delivery or just pie in the sky? There are issues of course, such as accidents, hijackings, delivering to the wrong address and what about appartments etc? It seems to be that Prime Air is ok if you live up to miles from the warehouse, have a very large garden and like to order stuff that weighs under five pounds! Does that sound like you?
