It is easy to get carried away when thinking about electric cars, the Tesla brand has made owning such a car a luxury, but not all electric cars are icons and with a price tag to match. This is the Rasa, from Riversimple a company based in Powys, Wales. The idea is simple, design and build a two seater car that is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and capable of reaching a top speed of around 60 mph! Well this is the result the Rasa, its light, uses state of the art technology and it could be on the road by 2018.
Four electric motors, one in each wheel
Motors as brakes – recovering over 50% of kinetic energy when braking
Super-capacitors to store this energy and provide most of the power for acceleration
A low powered hydrogen fuel cell ( 8.5 kW)
A body made of lightweight composites
Not everyone is going to like the design, but this is a car that has been created out of the need for cars that do not use an fuel burning engine, this is a clean car that can use kinetic energy from the brakes as a power source. So, if you see yourself silently gliding down the road in a Rasa then you will need to keep up with the news and developments from the company on the Riversimple website.
