During the early 1960’s the Mod revolution begun, it was not just the music, it was fashion, style and more than anything else it was attitude. Yet as with almost all revolutions go this one faded only to return in the late 1970’s in the UK and the 1980’s in the US. But for some Mod’s this is not a revolution, being a Mod is a lifestyle.
If you speak of Mod’s many people will naturally think of the 1979 movie Quadrophenia and this movie now has a little brother and its called Being! It tells the story of a young man, his mother is ill and his father is no longer around. They share a love of 60’s music and by chance he meets an actor who just happened to be in the movie Quadrophenia.
“I have always had an affinity with Quadrophenia due to growing up in Brighton and remembering the Mod gathering and scooters then. My youth and view of Brighton is fused with the film and the Mod scene. The outsider element at the core of the film focuses on young carers who battle caring for love ones, the dynamics of parent and child is upturned causing strain. There efforts go unnoticed by the larger society” Devlin Crow.
The story is magical, the music is fantastic and as for the scenery, well its filmed in Brighton, so there is no need to say any more about that as this is my second home! Being is just a short film, but it has a big story to tell and it does that brilliantly. For more information on Being the movie or how you can get involved go to the Being website.
