File sharing can be a tricky thing to be involved with especially if you are sharing material that has a serious copyright attached to it. Yet, as ever if seems that there is a way around this issue and they are calling it Dead Drops. This is useful because this kind of file sharing is not done online and is therefore completely anonymous. Although it has to be said that I would be a little bit cautious of connecting my new laptop to a USB that is just sticking out of wall in a public place!
‘Dead Drops’ is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. USB flash drives are embedded into walls, buildings and curbs accessible to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is open to participation.
