There are many ideas out there for eco friendly transport, but they all seem to revolve around the car and so the PodRide follows this pattern by fusing together a bike and the body of a car! Yes this is a strange concept but it works, although it is not going to be what everyone will want for transport, there will be those that will love it.
My assessment is that with large-scale production the price would be 2-3000€. And then I think many people would be interested. Today they sell 60 million cars and 130 million bicycles per year in the World. There are over 1 billion cars in the world now. If one percent of that market could be made to choose a vehicle that is a cross between a car and a bicycle, it will be 1.9 million units. 1.9 million units with a sales price of € 2,500 resulting in revenues of € 4,7 billions.
The PodRide measures up at around 180 cm (L) x 75 cm (W) x 145 cm (H) and it weighs in at 70 kilos. The wheels have 20 inch tyres a wheelbase of 88 cm and a turning circle of around 3.5 metres. It has a 250 W electric motor, 14 speed hub gearbox, a range of 60 km, a top speed of 25 kph and the Co2 emissions are 7 g/km. The estimated retail price of the PodRide is around 2500 euros, one day there could be lots of these on the roads, but order for that to happen this is project that needs backing.
