Robots have been around in one form or another for a very long time and yet it seems that most of the time robots are used to carry out the most mundane tasks. Yet in science fiction the story is very different and many cases the robots have become the overlords, while the humans are left to carry out the mundane tasks. Could it be that robots and humans will never be the best of friends, is the gap between the concious mind and computer too great to bridge, or will there eventually be a time when robots and humans can live together in some sort of harmony?
We came across this interesting video created by the Financial Times as part of the Living With Robots video series on YouTube. This video is called My Colleague, The Robot and it focuses not on the bad that robots and humans could do to each other, but rather how one day humans and robots will work and live together.
Robots have the advantage over humans simply because they are able to work 24/7, do not take breaks and are rarely asking for time off. Whereas on the other, a human worker has rights and are able to react to situations as they arise. There is a case for both robot and human in the work place. Eventually we will reach a place where the humans and robots crossover, this will be an important time for human and robot relations, from this point on both human and robot could be seen as colleagues, just imagine that!
