The best way to describe the Gramofon is to think of it as a modern style of juke box with a smartphone as the remote control and devices connecting through a wireless connection to spread the musical pleasure around. Created by the people who created the wireless network Fon, this palm sized device is like a musical hub for the home or work place connecting though a sound or speaker set up and it will connect through either an Ethernet or wireless connection.
Using the free smartphone app the device is connected to the Gramofon and now it is ready to stream free radio or music storage sites such as Spotify through the connected speaker system, it could not be easier. Is there any other easier way to stream music through your home speaker system? The Gramofon will be launching this summer, but it can be pre ordered still from around $50. Fon wireless is available from Google Play for Android and iTunes for iOS.
The UK based Frankenspiel are no strangers to coming up with cool speakers, but the latest one is quite impressive offering a 100 dB of audio pleasure that even when at full volume there is no distortion, which is not always possible with some other speakers using a Bluetooth connection. One other interesting feature is the 360 degree wraparound sound that is ideal for parties and special events. It does this quite simply by having the speaker controls inset slightly on the back so that the FS-X can be faced upward providing the perfect surround sound, without damaging the controls.
Normally, you might expect a portable speaker battery to provide around eight hours playback time from a three hour charge or thereabouts. But the FS-X has a fast charge feature of fifty minutes that provides the user up to fifty hours of playback time, which is just what you need for playing music outside and away from the mains power supply. The FS-X will be going on sale this summer with a retail price of around £70, but if you are quick it can be pre ordered from just £45, which is a considerable saving.
Budding musicians of all levels can build their own musical interface with the help of a Kyub kit that comes with everything required, or alternatively it comes ready made for a little bit more cash and a lot less hassle. In the fully assembled version buyers will be getting the six piece design that has been laser cut using a birch plywood housing, there is the PCB with surface mount accelerometer, Teensy 2.0 with header pins, twelve snap in domed pads and connecting header jumpers.
Plus you will be getting all of this too; twelve resistors, six capacitors, three sockets, two tactile mode and reset switches, standoffs, screws, and to finish it all off there is a massive six foot long USB cable. Expect to see the Kyub device launching this summer, but for those who are looking to get ahead of the game the fully assembled Kyub can be pre ordered from $65.
