  • VR Giants: A Colossal Co-op Adventure You Need to Play

VR Giants: A Colossal Co-op Adventure You Need to Play

VR gaming is constantly looking for new ways to connect players, and one game has mastered the art of asymmetrical co-op: VR Giants. This inventive puzzle platformer doesn’t just put you in a virtual world; it makes you and a friend two sides of a singular, epic journey.

Two Players, Two Worlds, One Goal

At its heart, VR Giants is a two-player cooperative game with a fantastic twist:

    • The VR Player is Goliath, the Giant: Towering over the world, the VR player uses their body (yes, their actual body movement!) to act as a living part of the level. You’ll lift, shield, and create bridges with your hands and limbs to help your small companion. It requires active movement, making it a truly physical VR experience.
    • The Screen Player is David, the Tiny Hero: Controlled via a standard gamepad on the same PC (or through online features like Steam Remote Play Together), the screen player is agile and vulnerable. David’s job is to navigate the level, dodge environmental hazards like spikes and fire, collect coins, and, most importantly, activate switches to summon and move Goliath to new play areas.

The core gameplay loop is a delightful blend of physical action and classic platforming. Goliath might have to hold his hand steady to create a temporary platform for David, or use his massive body as a shield against falling rocks. David, in turn, is the key to progress, collecting the necessary items and opening the way for the giant.

    The Magic of Asymmetrical Design

What makes VR Giants truly special is the inherent contrast in roles. It’s a brilliant solution to the age-old problem of “VR isolation” where a friend can only watch you play. Here, the non-VR player is just as crucial, creating a hilarious and genuinely collaborative experience.

Communication is paramount. You can’t just silently stomp your way through a level as Goliath; you need to coordinate with David, who has the ‘eyes on the ground’ perspective.

The game takes you through diverse biomes—from icy landscapes to scorching lava caves—each introducing new mechanics. You even get different forms for Goliath, such as a Temporary Goliath who only exists as long as the button is held, or a Fire Goliath made of lava who must avoid touching David or any flammable wood objects! This adds layers of creative puzzle-solving to the adventure.

    A Must-Try for Co-op Fans

With its original concept, engaging puzzles, and strong focus on teamwork and trust, VR Giants has been winning over players since its Early Access debut on Steam. Now, with its upcoming release on Meta Quest (allowing both players to potentially be in VR!), the adventure is set to become even more immersive.

If you’re looking for a fresh, fun, and truly cooperative gaming experience to share with a friend, sibling, or partner, VR Giants is a colossal recommendation! Grab a friend, step into your respective roles, and get ready for one of the most inventive co-op platformers in recent memory.

  • Celestial Return: Rolling the Dice in the Cyber-Noir Abyss

Celestial Return: Rolling the Dice in the Cyber-Noir Abyss

Forget everything you know about clean-cut heroes and predictable plot lines. Stepping into the world of Celestial Return, a gripping Sci-Fi Noir RPG from Metaphor Games, is less a journey and more a stumble into a rain-soaked, neon-drenched abyss where cosmic horrors mingle with corrupt megacorps.

If games like Disco Elysium and Citizen Sleeper left a delightful, philosophical ache in your soul, then this is one title you need to be watching. It’s not just a game; it’s a manifesto for the forgotten.

The City that Eats You: Welcome to Netherveil

The premise is pure noir: you play as Detective Howard—a washed-up ex-rocker and paranormal anomaly detective—in Netherveil City. This dying, cyberpunk metropolis is a magnet for the weird: streets bleeding neon, corpses that crawl back to life, and a string of mysterious suicides that are anything but ordinary.

Howard isn’t armed with a trusty sidearm, but a rusted badge, a pocketful of stolen dice, and a truly unique partner: a sentient, talking rose. Together, they must explore the city, interrogate the dead, and uncover a plot involving alien invasion and the cosmic horrors hiding just beneath the digital veneer.

Dice are Your Bullets, Your Bribes, Your Breath

The core of Celestial Return lies in its unique, dice-driven mechanics. In this narrative-heavy RPG, dice are everything. They are not just for combat, but for nearly every critical decision:

    • Dialogue Checks: Persuading a witness, lying to a cop, or even resisting an inner monologue’s pull all hinge on a roll. Success opens new narrative branches, failure burns resources or locks you into unforeseen consequences.
    • Resource Management: You earn, spend, and lose dice constantly. Hoard them, and opportunities vanish; roll recklessly, and you might find yourself without the ‘oxygen’ you need for the next crucial check.
    • Character Building: Forget rigid class structures. Your choices in conversation and skill allocation build your character’s Insights—like Virtue, Foolishness, or Anger Issues—which in turn shape the dialogue options you see. Every choice literally rewrites your path.

This system creates a thrilling sense of risk and consequence, mirroring the existential terror of surviving in Netherveil.

A Hand-Shattered Art Style and Sonic Warfare

Beyond the mechanics, the game is a feast for the senses. Metaphor Games has crafted a distinct visual style that is both raw and polished, blending the detailed precision of Japanese manga (think Akira or Blame!) with the raw nerve of American comic books. The hand-drawn graphics are atmospheric and moody, capturing the grit and glamour of a collapsing world.

The auditory experience is equally immersive, with a full soundtrack that is described as “sonic warfare.” Expect a jarring but perfect mix of Noir Jazz, Cyberpunk Techno, and Death Metal—it’s not background noise, it’s a character in itself.

    A New Narrative Legacy

Celestial Return is shaping up to be more than just an homage to the narrative RPGs that inspired it. It promises:

    • Multiple Protagonists: The full game will feature the story told from the viewpoints of three distinct characters, including a rebellious cyborg and the aforementioned talking rose, each with their own Insights and anxieties.
    • Nine Thrilling Endings: Your decisions, rolls, and alliances will lead to vastly different conclusions.
    • An Epic Scope: Despite its deep noir focus, the game is a massive undertaking with over 70,000 words of dialogue and text.

The team at Metaphor Games is currently on Kickstarter, rallying support to bring this ambitious vision to life, and the positive feedback from the available demo shows they are on the right track.

    The Verdict (So Far):

If you crave a story-rich experience where your choices genuinely matter and the atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a rusted badge, Celestial Return should be at the top of your wishlist. Prepare to roll the dice and face the cosmic, cyber-noir truth of Netherveil.

Celestial Return is in development by Metaphor Games. A demo is available on Steam and the project is currently seeking support via Kickstarter.

  • Masked Salvation: Why You Should Be Excited for Verho – Curse of Faces

Masked Salvation: Why You Should Be Excited for Verho – Curse of Faces

A chill wind is blowing across the dark fantasy landscape, and it’s bringing with it a deadly curse. Get ready, RPG fans, because Verho – Curse of Faces is on the horizon, promising a grim, atmospheric adventure that pays homage to classic dungeon crawlers like the legendary King’s Field series.

Set to be released on November 10, 2025, this first-person dark fantasy RPG from Polish studio Kasur Games and CobraTekku Games is already turning heads, and here’s why you should keep it on your radar.

A World Defined by a Deadly Secret

The premise of Verho is instantly compelling and deeply unsettling: the world has been ravaged by the Curse of Faces. In the desolate land of Yariv, revealing one’s face means instant death for both the observer and the observed. This catastrophic event, known as the “Era of Solitude,” has forced the remnants of humanity to hide behind masks, which have now become the ultimate symbol of safety and identity.

You step into the boots of an unnamed protagonist venturing into Yariv to uncover the origins of this deadly scourge and, perhaps, lift it forever. The atmosphere is thick with menace and mystery, driven by authentic PS1-era retro graphics that give the game a unique, neo-retro charm that’s perfect for the dark fantasy setting.

    Gameplay: Old-School Soul, Modern Variety

If you’re a fan of the slow-burn, methodical, and challenging combat of the games that inspired the Souls genre, Verho is for you. It proudly follows the tradition of the King’s Field series, offering a dark dungeon-crawler experience with a strong emphasis on exploration and merciless battles.

But it’s the masks that truly define the gameplay. These aren’t just cosmetic items; they are essential for survival and offer different classes and play styles. This system promises deep build variety, allowing players to experiment with a wide range of melee weapons, magical abilities, and spells that can completely alter the combat experience on subsequent playthroughs.

Beyond the combat, Yariv is a world waiting to be uncovered. Expect a rich, narrative experience with mysterious NPCs who carry their own traumas and circumstances, offering further quests and challenges. It’s a world designed for the curious and the brave, filled with hidden paths and secrets for those who dare to explore every gloomy corner.

    Try Before You Buy

Can’t wait until November? You’re in luck! Kasur Games has made a playable demo of Verho – Curse of Faces available on Steam. This robust demo often features several hours of gameplay, giving you a substantial taste of the dark atmosphere, challenging combat, and rich world-building.

Whether you’re a veteran of the classic ’90s RPGs or a dark fantasy enthusiast looking for a unique and atmospheric new challenge, Verho – Curse of Faces is gearing up to be one of the most intriguing indie RPG releases of the year. • Crossings: Block, Dodge, and Spell-Sling Your Way Through Norse Myth

Crossings: Block, Dodge, and Spell-Sling Your Way Through Norse Myth

The VR landscape is constantly expanding, and a new title is making waves among fans of action and roguelite games: Crossings. Developed by Neat Corporation, this game thrusts players into the misty, ethereal landscapes of the Norse afterlife for a brutally rewarding combat experience.

If you’ve been looking for a VR game that blends intense melee combat with intuitive magic, Crossings might just be your next addiction.

    Vicious, Intuitive VR Combat

At its core, Crossings is an action-adventure roguelite, but its unique combat system is what truly sets it apart. Forget simple button mashing; this game demands that you master the art of the physical fight:

    • Swordplay: You’ll wield blades, axes, and other mythic weapons, requiring genuine physical blocks and strikes to deal with the terrifying enemies that inhabit this afterlife. The tactile feedback of landing a perfect parry or a powerful blow is incredibly satisfying.
    • Gesture-Based Spellcasting: Moving beyond standard button presses for magic, Crossings integrates a unique gesture-based system for spellcasting. Want to blast a foe with a fireball? You’ll need to learn the specific motion for that spell, adding a layer of immersion and skill to your magical arsenal. This combination of physical sword fighting and quick, gestural spellcasting creates dynamic and often frantic combat encounters.

The Roguelite Loop: Every Death is a Lesson

As a roguelite, the core loop is simple but deeply engaging: Die, learn, and try again.

Each run takes you through ever-changing, procedurally generated forests, ruins, and deep caves inspired by old Norse myth. With every defeat, you don’t just restart; you gain knowledge. You learn enemy patterns, refine your combat style, and start your next run armed with more wisdom than before.

Along the way, you’ll claim altar-born powers, find new weapons, and build a unique loadout, ensuring that no two journeys through the Norse underworld feel quite the same. The quest to push further and uncover the memory of your lost village is the compelling thread that pulls you forward through the cycles of death and rebirth.

Seamless Co-op: Cross the Divide Together

One of the most intriguing features is the option for seamless, ambient co-op. While you can brave the dangers alone, the game allows you to encounter and join fellow lost souls—other players—wordlessly and effortlessly. This shared experience of fighting side-by-side against a terrifying Troll or a swarm of Draugr adds a layer of community to an otherwise solitary journey.

    Who Should Play Crossings?

If you are a VR enthusiast who:

    • Loves physical, immersive combat.
    • Enjoys the high-stakes and progression of roguelite games.
    • It is looking for a unique take on spellcasting.
    • Has a deep appreciation for Norse mythology and atmosphere.

…then you should absolutely check out Crossings.

The game successfully captures the feeling of being a true Norse warrior, forced to fight for vengeance and survival in a world of myth and shadow. Get ready to block, dodge, and unleash your inner Viking—the afterlife awaits!

  • Adrift on the Blue: Why ‘The Last Caretaker’ is the Survival Game We Need

Adrift on the Blue: Why ‘The Last Caretaker’ is the Survival Game We Need

Forget scavenging for berries on a deserted island or punching trees in the wilderness. The next great challenge in the survival-crafting genre is taking place on the silent, vast expanse of a drowned Earth, and you’re not even human.

We’re talking about The Last Caretaker, the atmospheric, first-person survival-crafting adventure from developer Channel37. Set to launch into Early Access soon, this game elevates the genre by making its core theme less about personal survival and more about the heavy, emotional burden of saving an entire species.

A Drowning World and a Singular Mission

In the world of The Last Caretaker, the Earth has been entirely swallowed by the ocean. Towering megastructures and laboratories rust under a yawning sky—humanity is long gone, having fled to the stars after realising they couldn’t reproduce in a gravity-free environment.

This is where you come in. You play as the titular Caretaker, a reawakened machine whose singular, compulsive purpose is to secure humanity’s future. Your mission is clear:

    1. Recover Human Seeds: Sail your trusty, customizable barge across the vast ocean to find forgotten vaults containing the last human genetic material.
    2. Nurture Life: Bring the “seeds” back to the Lazarus Complex, your mobile base, to care for and grow them in biopods, managing crucial systems like temperature and nutrient flow.
    3. Launch to the Stars: Restore and reactivate the ancient launch infrastructure to send your nurtured humans beyond the drowning world, carrying the hope of humanity to a new home.

It’s an immensely lonely yet profoundly purposeful experience, beautifully contrasting the desolate, waterlogged world with the sweet, critical task of incubating new life.

    Beyond Survival: The Core Loop

While the genre staples are present—first-person perspective, crafting, and exploration—The Last Caretaker introduces some unique, thought-provoking twists:

    • You’re a Robot, Not a Human: You don’t manage hunger or thirst (at least not for yourself). Your primary resource is power. Every action, from piloting your ship to powering your weapons, drains your internal battery. This creates a compelling new layer of resource management, forcing strategic choices between charging yourself up for a long journey or using that energy to fire up a crucial defence system back at base.
    • The World is Your Salvage Yard: Materials are not just gathered; they are recycled. You’ll dismantle abandoned structures and tear down machinery, deciding what scrap is worth carrying back to your recycler to craft power grids, tools, and weapons. The modular crafting system promises a great depth for creative problem-solving.
    • Narrative-Driven Progression: The exploration isn’t random. As you sail and explore, you’ll piece together the stories of the humans who came before, the choices that led to the flood, and the mystery of your own sudden reactivation. The survival loop directly serves the emotional and narrative goals of the game.

    Looking Ahead

The Last Caretaker is a refreshing take on a crowded genre, promising a rich, melancholy atmosphere and a systemic, physics-based gameplay loop that rewards thoughtful resource management.

The game is scheduled to enter Early Access on November 6th, 2025, on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. If you’re looking for a survival game that makes you think, with a heavy emphasis on a powerful narrative and the ultimate responsibility, this is one voyage you absolutely must wishlist.

The fate of humanity rests on your chassis—are you ready to be the last hope?

  • More Than a Mashup: Why Cloudheim’s Chaotic Action-RPG Blend Deserves Your Attention

More Than a Mashup: Why Cloudheim’s Chaotic Action-RPG Blend Deserves Your Attention

In a world saturated with action RPGs, a new title needs to offer something truly unique to stand out. Enter Cloudheim, an upcoming co-op action-adventure RPG that throws a chaotic mix of intense, physics-based combat, deep crafting, and… a fantastical shopkeeping sim… all onto the back of a giant flying turtle.

Developed by Noodle Cat Games, a studio founded by industry veterans from titles like Fortnite and Star Wars: The Old Republic, Cloudheim is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and charmingly chaotic indie titles on the horizon. Here’s why you should keep this post-Ragnarök adventure on your radar.

The Genre-Bending Core: Fighting Game Meets Shop Sim

At first glance, Cloudheim‘s genre description reads like a mad scientist’s experiment: an Action-Adventure RPG with Crafting and a Shop Simulation. Yet, this seemingly disparate mix is precisely what gives the game its distinctive flavour.

? Master the Chaos: Physics-Driven Combat

Forget your standard hack-and-slash. Cloudheim‘s combat is inspired by the intricate juggling and combo mechanics of classic fighting games. The core philosophy is physics-driven damage.

    • Destruction as a Weapon: The world is fully breakable, and you’re encouraged to use it. Kick explosive barrels into the fray, collapse pillars onto enemies, or lasso a monster into a tornado for massive damage.
    • Creative Combos: Damage isn’t just about if you hit an enemy, but how. Knock a large enemy into a group of smaller ones and watch the impact ripple through the crowd, creating truly spectacular, high-damage combos.
    • Play Your Way: Whether you prefer to meticulously build a min-maxed loadout or abandon traditional attacks entirely to focus on physics-based crowd control, Cloudheim is built to support diverse playstyles.

?? The Entrepreneur in the Sky: Your Floating Fantasy Shop

Between your dangerous expeditions for loot, you’ll return to your base of operations: the Odin Shell. This isn’t just any home base; it’s a massive, ancient flying turtle carrying the fragment of a dead god’s power.

This is where the shopkeeping sim comes in. You’ll process the loot and crafting materials you’ve gathered to forge powerful new weapons and gear. Then, you’ll stock the shelves of your expanding fantasy shop and sell your wares to customers from all over the fractured realm. The goal? To rebuild society and bring harmony by reconnecting the scattered cultures in the aftermath of Ragnarök.

Key Features That Make Cloudheim Fly

    • Cruising the Skies on Odin Shell: Your customizable flying turtle base is your home, workshop, and shop. Expand your space, manage your stock, and unlock systems like fishing, gardening, and alchemy as you traverse the diverse floating islands.
    • Rise Together (1-4 Player Co-Op): Team up with up to three friends in online co-op. The game ensures seamless co-op by allowing you to share every weapon and ability you unlock, making your group stronger together without any player falling behind.
    • Forge Infinite Possibilities: Cloudheim aims to eliminate “the grind.” The visual crafting system lets you create powerful gear and abilities on the fly without waiting in a menu, keeping the action moving and ensuring that creating new items always feels rewarding.
    • An Alt-Reality Norse Mythology: Set after the catastrophic events of Ragnarök, the world of Cloudheim is a colourful, fractured landscape inspired by Norse legends, but free to take its own humorous and fantastical path.

Ready to Shape the Next World?

Cloudheim is more than just a collection of great ideas; it’s a commitment to cooperative fun, creative combat, and a colourful, inviting world. It’s a breath of fresh air for the Action RPG genre.

If you’re ready to Master the Chaos, run the most profitable (and only) shop in the sky, and rebuild a shattered world from the back of a giant flying turtle, then it’s time to keep an eye on Cloudheim.

The game, developed by Noodle Cat Games, is expected to launch on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.

  • Break Free From the Lie: Why You Need to Play The Visitor Effect: Not an Experiment

Break Free From the Lie: Why You Need to Play The Visitor Effect: Not an Experiment

What if the reality you woke up in wasn’t real? That’s the core question posed by The Visitor Effect: Not an Experiment, the debut title from Spanish independent studio Mystic Morgue. This innovative puzzle-strategy adventure is set to challenge your perception and reward your critical thinking when it launches on November 7, 2025.

    Waking Up in the Simulation

In The Visitor Effect: Not an Experiment, you step into the metallic body of R3D, an alien robot who finds themselves trapped inside a strange, colourful, yet corrupted simulation. You have no memory of who controls you or the purpose of your existence.

This is more than just a puzzle game; it’s a deep, narrative-driven experience where every choice matters. Your mission is simple, but the journey is complex: unravel the conspiracy and find a way out.

    Puzzles, Strategy, and Choice

The game seamlessly blends three key genres: Adventure, Indie, and Strategy.

    • Clever Puzzles: Get ready to flex your mental muscles. The game features a series of hand-crafted, challenging puzzles that stand as your primary barrier to freedom.
    • Deep Narrative & Moral Choices: The story unfolds through dialogue and hidden notes you must uncover. These notes provide crucial information that will influence the moral choices you make. The information you choose to trust will dictate whether you move closer to the truth or sink deeper into the lie, leading to multiple endings.
    • Action Sequences: The experience isn’t all logic and lore. As you near the end, the pace shifts with action sequences where you must dodge relentless turrets and enemies. If you manage to break the initial simulation, you face a final, intense trial against the General in a bid to escape the laboratory.

The whole experience is designed to make you question reality, forcing you to think critically about who you can truly trust.

From University Project to Multi-Platform Debut

The journey of The Visitor Effect: Not an Experiment is a testament to indie ambition. Mystic Morgue was founded by five friends who met while studying Game Design and Development. What started as a university capstone project quickly showed its potential and grew into a full-fledged professional release.

With the support of publisher Dojo System, the game is not only coming to Steam but also launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch!

  • Blast Off with Charm: Why You Need to Play Little Rocket Lab

Blast Off with Charm: Why You Need to Play Little Rocket Lab

If you’ve ever dreamt of combining the logistical satisfaction of an automation game with the cosy, heartwarming feel of a life-sim RPG, then get ready to clear your schedule. Little Rocket Lab has officially launched, and it’s the beautiful, brain-teasing hybrid we didn’t know we needed.

Developed by Teenage Astronauts and published by No More Robots, this title takes you on a journey that’s part engineering challenge, part small-town revival. It’s time to roll up your sleeves, fire up the assembly lines, and build something truly extraordinary.

The Premise: More Than Just a Factory

At the heart of Little Rocket Lab is a story that feels personal and ambitious. You play as Morgan, an aspiring engineer returning home to the sleepy town of St. Ambroise. The town, like your childhood home, has fallen into disrepair, but you have a grand plan: to complete your late mother’s dream project—a massive rocket ship.

Your ultimate goal is literally out of this world, but the path to get there is grounded in community. The game brilliantly intertwines the two halves of its genre-blending DNA:

    • The RPG/Life-Sim: You’ll spend time getting to know the colourful residents of St. Ambroise, each of whom has a problem that only a clever engineer can solve. By helping the locals, you unlock new parts of the town, gain access to resources, and become the heart of the community.
    • The Automation/Simulation: This is where your engineering mind takes over. To help the town and build your rocket, you need materials, and the only way to get them efficiently is through automated factories.

The Thrill of the Assembly Line

While the art style and town charm may feel reminiscent of games like Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons, the core gameplay loop has the depth of a classic factory-builder like Factorio.

You’ll start small with basic tools like drills and furnaces, converting raw materials—mined from diverse locations like coasts, railyards, and underground areas—into usable components. But before long, you’ll be constructing intricate, sprawling production lines featuring:

    • Complex Assemblers: Turning multiple components into advanced parts.
    • Conveyor Belts: Laying down miles of track to move resources across your growing workspace.
    • Cranes and Robotics: Automating difficult or multi-step processes.
    • Power Management: Incorporating electrical and waterpower to keep your contraptions running smoothly.

  • Warp Speed Strategy: Why ‘Fleetbreakers’ is the Roguelite RTS You Need to Play

Warp Speed Strategy: Why ‘Fleetbreakers’ is the Roguelite RTS You Need to Play

A new contender is challenging the stars of the strategy genre, and it comes with a serious pedigree. Fleetbreakers, the upcoming title from developer Last Keep, isn’t just another space RTS—it’s a dynamic blend of deep fleet management and fast-paced, roguelite-infused combat. If you’re looking for a fresh take on real-time strategy, this one should be firmly on your radar.

RTS Veterans Chart a New Course

The buzz around Fleetbreakers is amplified by the team behind it. Developed by Last Keep, the studio includes veterans who worked on legendary titles like Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, and Halo Wars. This experience signals an intent to honor the core appeal of classic RTS games while modernizing the formula for a new generation.

The result is a game that feels both strategically profound and immediately accessible. The developers describe it as a “modern blend of classic strategy and fast-paced combat,” a promise that the available demo seems to be delivering on.

The Core Loop: Roguelite Campaigns and Squadron Combat

At its heart, Fleetbreakers pits you, a young leader of a fledgling rebel faction, against the menacing Voltari empire. The campaign unfolds across a procedurally generated Starmap, which is where the roguelite element truly shines.

The Strategy Layer: Each run is a new war. You strategically choose your next move on the Starmap—whether to target an enemy base, build a new colony, or respond to sector-wide events. Your choices have consequences, as the Voltari react dynamically, forcing you to constantly adapt your long-term plan. This provides the high-level decision-making depth that strategy fans crave, where every move feels impactful.

The Combat Layer (Develop, Deploy, Destroy): When it’s time to fight, the game transitions to exhilarating, real-time space battles.

    • Squadron Control: Instead of micromanaging individual ships, you command Squadrons—groups of diverse units from agile fighters to tough tanks. This streamlined approach makes the fast-paced combat manageable, particularly with full controller support in mind.
    • Attack Facing: A key tactical feature is Attack Facing, which lets you precisely control the direction your squadrons approach a target. This adds a crucial layer of positional strategy, allowing you to avoid turrets or set up devastating flanking manoeuvres.
    • Mothership Support: Your mothership isn’t just a static base. You use it to build critical stations, call in reinforcements, and activate special support abilities that can instantly turn the tide of a losing battle.
    • Persistent Upgrades: Even if a run ends in defeat, it’s not the end. The roguelite structure includes persistent upgrades that carry over, allowing your fleet to grow stronger and better prepared for the next attempt to liberate the sector.

A Fresh Take on Space Warfare

The game aims to bridge the gap between grand strategy and action-focused combat, offering a high-replayability experience. The short, impactful missions and the mix of macro-level strategic decisions on the Starmap with micro-level tactical maneuvers in battle make for a captivating flow.

With an Early Access launch currently slated for Q1 2026, the developers are actively engaging with the community, utilising a free, playable demo on Steam to gather feedback. If you’re a fan of RTS, roguelites, or just love the idea of commanding an armada against an oppressive galactic empire, the time to dive into Fleetbreakers and leave your mark on development is now.

Ready to forge your own fleet? The free demo is available on Steam, offering a glimpse into the action-packed space strategy that Last Keep is cooking up. Go download it and let us know your thoughts!

  • A Scrappy Surprise: Drifter Makes the Leap to 3D in Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective

A Scrappy Surprise: Drifter Makes the Leap to 3D in Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective

The hype for Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective has been building, not just for the new drone-focused gameplay and stages, but for the announcement of its two new Survivors: the brand-new Operator, and the delightful return of the Drifter!

Making her 3D debut after charming players in Risk of Rain Returns, Drifter is back to prove that one person’s trash is a whole team’s treasure. She’s the resourceful brawler-support with a knack for turning scrap metal into powerful, albeit temporary, loot. For console players, this is her first appearance, making her essentially a brand-new experience, and for veterans, it’s a fascinating look at how her unique mechanics are translated into the chaotic 3D world of Petrichor V.

The Heart of the Scrapper: Drifter’s Kit

The Drifter’s core loop revolves around generating and spending Scrap, a unique resource that powers her most defining abilities.

    • Primary: Blunt Force (Likely): This will be her main source of damage and, crucially, her primary way to generate Scrap. In Returns, it was a 3-hit combo with a high chance to generate Scrap on each hit. Expect a similar, close-range, high-damage opener in RoR2, requiring you to get right into the fray to fuel your utility.
    • Resource: Scrap: This is the lifeblood of her kit. You gain it by landing hits with her primary and using certain abilities, and you spend it on her special moves. A new passive ability in Alloyed Collective even gives her a stat buff (like movement speed) for every piece of scrap she holds, making resource management a vital part of her moment-to-moment gameplay.
    • Special: Salvage/Recycle: This is where Drifter truly shines as a support.
      • Salvage (her default Special in Returns) consumed a large amount of Scrap to spawn a bundle of temporary items. These items could be common, uncommon, or even rare, and the temporary nature of the buffs meant a constant, exciting turnover of power. For her RoR2 iteration, this temporary item system is confirmed to be coming back and will likely be the centrepiece of her design.
      • Recycle (an alternate in Returns) was a scrap-consuming ability that could reroll a nearby item or equipment pickup. This could be an absolute game-changer in a tough run, allowing you to fine-tune your (or your teammate’s) build.

    Bringing the Brawler-Support to 3D

The transition from 2D side-scroller to a 3D arena shooter is the biggest question mark, and the developer’s reveal trailer offered some exciting hints:

    • Resource Management in the Fray: Unlike survivors who rely on simple cooldowns, Drifter requires active engagement to generate her resource. You have to risk getting up close with Blunt Force to get the Scrap you need to secure more loot for your run. This creates an intense rhythm of close-quarters brawling followed by tactical item distribution.
    • Team Synergy King: Her ability to drop temporary items makes her an incredible asset in multiplayer. Imagine dropping four high-rarity temporary items right before a teleporter fight. While some community members who playtested the DLC confirmed you can’t, for example, carry a Scrapper between stages, the temporary item system promises to offer incredible bursts of power and a new layer of team coordination.
    • The Power of the Temporary: The very concept of temporary items is a wild, unpredictable element. A fleeting run with a God-tier item or a movement buff that saves your life for a stage adds a chaotic, fun element to the classic Risk of Rain item grind. It rewards players for constantly engaging with the mechanic.

    A Welcome Return

Drifter’s return is more than just another face; it’s a testament to the character design from Risk of Rain Returns and a fresh take on the core RoR2 loop. Her kit is perfectly designed to disrupt the predictable nature of item acquisition, forcing players to manage a secondary resource and think about short-term power spikes instead of just permanent build-ups.

If you enjoy melee-focused survivors, value high utility, or just want to shake up the looting process for yourself and your co-op buddies, the Drifter is shaping up to be a truly unique and exciting addition to the Risk of Rain 2 roster.
