Sing Your Way Home — Echoes of the Unread Out Now on Steam & NES!

Prepare to raise your voice and sing your way to freedom in a musical tale of magic, song, and friendship.

Following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, Echoes of the Unread — the charming 8-bit musical adventure from Clever Cat Games and publisher Mega Cat Studios — has officially launched on Steam alongside a physical NES cartridge release, both arriving October 15, 2026.

    Where Books Come Alive

You play as Rhapsody, a student who drifts off during a late-night study session in the library — only to wake up in a wondrous world where stories have sprung from the shelves. The library itself has become an adventure, and your voice is your greatest power. Sing to solve puzzles, battle foes, and unlock secrets as you journey through realms inspired by your favourite book genres.

From a galloping Wild West frontier to a spooky graveyard, from shimmering underwater kingdoms to mysterious lands beyond imagination — every page brings a new world to explore. Along the way you’ll befriend a cowboy, serenade a mermaid, and outsmart a mischievous ghost. Every choice shapes your story, with multiple endings waiting to be discovered.

    Game Highlights

    • Music is your magic — use your voice to manipulate the world, overcome obstacles, and face whatever comes your way
    • Storybook worlds — leap through distinct, vivid realms each with its own characters, challenges, and atmosphere
    • Friends along the way — build bonds with a colourful cast; their help could be the key to getting home
    • Your choices matter — decisions change the journey, leading to different paths and endings
    • Retro charm, modern polish — enjoy classic 8-bit platforming with a challenging Retro Mode for purists
    • Dual release — play on PC via Steam or own a piece of history with the physical NES cartridge

    From Dream to Reality

The project began life as a Kickstarter where 355 backers rallied together to bring it to life, raising over $25,500 to make this musical dream a reality. Now, thanks to that incredible support, Rhapsody’s adventure is ready for everyone to experience.

“We’re reading everything — Steam Discussions, Discord, Reddit, in-game surveys,” said Dream Dock CEO Rostislav Fedorov. “Your feedback is helping us make DREADMOOR everything you’re hoping for”.

    Ready to Sing?

Echoes of the Unread is available right now on Steam and the physical NES edition can be ordered directly from the Mega Cat Studios Store.

Will you help Rhapsody find her way back? The library is calling — and it’s time to answer with a song.

  • Unleash the Nerd Rage: A Look at the Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit Game!

Unleash the Nerd Rage: A Look at the Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit Game!

For years, the Angry Video Game Nerd, James Rolfe’s foul-mouthed, short-tempered alter-ego, has been the champion of retro-gaming fans, reviewing the absolute worst games the NES and other classic consoles had to offer. It’s a glorious irony, then, that one of the most celebrated game franchises in recent years is one based on the Nerd himself!

While the Nerd already starred in the famously tough Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures and its sequel, the team has gone full retro with the latest instalment: Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit.

The Ultimate Return to 8-Bit Hell

Unlike its predecessor, which leaned into a more modern pixel-art aesthetic, Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit is an action-platformer that truly commits to the bit. Developed by Programancer and Mega Cat Studios, this game is a genuine love letter to the NES era of punishing difficulty and quirky design—the very games the Nerd loves to hate.

It’s an authentic-looking, back-to-basics action-platformer that immediately feels like a lost gem from the late ’80s or early ’90s.

    A Nightmare Level Design

What makes this game a must-play for fans is how perfectly it captures the spirit of the AVGN web series. You play as The Nerd, blasting your way through levels ripped straight from his nightmarish video game collection and iconic reviews.

    • Familiar Foes: Get ready to battle classic villains and enemies from the show, including zombies, mechanical skeletons, and ghoulish reapers.
    • Twisted Environments: The levels themselves are a nostalgic, hellish journey, full of the kind of cheap tricks, poor hit detection, and frustrating jumps that defined the ‘shovelware’ era.
    • Nerd Rage & Voiceovers: Yes, it includes genuine Nerd rage and voiceovers to keep the comedic momentum going, making each deadly pitfall and boss battle feel like a playable episode.

More Than Just an Emulator Game

The dedication to the 8-bit experience is so profound that, for the absolute purists, a physical version of the game was even made available as a real NES cartridge! This is the kind of commitment that makes the AVGN community—those who appreciate the historical significance of the NES—go wild.

Whether you’re dodging projectiles on a modern console or blowing dust out of a real NES cart, AVGN 8-bit manages to be both a challenging platformer and a fantastic piece of interactive fan service.

Final Thoughts: Is it a “Shitload of F*ck”?

Thankfully, no. While the game embraces the unfair difficulty the Nerd rails against, it does so with modern polish and excellent controls. It’s tough, but unlike the Friday the 13th or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde games he reviews, it’s fair and rewarding.

Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit is a chaotic blend of retro nostalgia, inside jokes, and solid platforming action. It’s a game that finally turns the Nerd’s decades of frustration into a source of pure, unadulterated retro fun.
