EA and Respawn Entertainment have officially hit the nitro button on the hype train, dropping the gameplay trailer for Apex Legends: Overclocked. Launching on May 5, 2026, the new season is leaning heavily into a “high-risk, high-reward” philosophy that looks set to drastically shift the current meta.
If the trailer is anything to go by, the Outlands are about to get a lot faster and much more forgiving for those brave enough to push the pace.
Meet Axle: The High-Speed Skirmisher
The star of the show is undoubtedly Axle, a hypercompetitive body-mod racer who brings wheels—literally—to the Apex Games. Her kit is designed around maintaining momentum and punishing teams that stand still:
- Passive: Drift – Axle has enhanced movement precision, allowing her to slide with increased control and stop on a dime.
- Tactical: Nitro Gate – She deploys a booster plate on the ground. Any teammate who passes through it gains a significant speed-boosted slide, perfect for aggressive rotations.
- Ultimate: Kickstart – Axle launches an enemy-seeking drone that disorients and displaces foes, forcing them out of cover and into your line of fire.
Deathbox Respawns: No Beacon Required
In perhaps the biggest mechanical shift in years, Deathbox Respawns are coming to Overclocked. This new feature allows players to revive fallen teammates directly at their Deathbox.
The Catch: While you don’t need to hunt for a Respawn Beacon, the process takes seven seconds, is incredibly noisy, and highly visible to nearby squads. It’s a literal “clutch or kick” mechanic that rewards squads for wiping an enemy team and holding their ground.
Meta Shifts and Legend Buffs
Axle isn’t the only one getting an upgrade. Respawn is doubling down on movement and utility for some of the roster’s favourites:
- Conduit: Receives an extra Tactical charge and improved mobility.
- Vantage: Her ultimate now features improved handling and a 2x canted optic, making her far more dangerous in mid-range “quick-scope” scenarios.
- Chain Healing: A new quality-of-life feature allowing players to queue up healing items (like a Battery followed by a Cell) to trigger automatically.
Platform Updates: A New Era
Apex Legends: Overclocked marks a significant milestone for hardware. While the game launches across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, it is also optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Notably, this is the penultimate season for original Nintendo Switch players; Respawn has confirmed that support for the legacy Switch hardware will officially end with the launch of Season 30 in August 2026.
