Return to Middle-earth! The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition Shadow-Drops Today

Tolkien fans and RPG enthusiasts, assemble! In a surprise drop that has Middle-earth gaming fans buzzing, Aspyr has officially unveiled and launched The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ – Legacy Edition.

The Legacy Edition is available today across modern platforms, bringing this fan-favourite slice of LOTR history back with a whole host of modern enhancements.

What’s New in the Legacy Edition?

While Frodo and Samwise make their treacherous trek toward Mount Doom, a parallel conflict rages in the North against Agandaur, a formidable Black Númenórean and servant of Sauron.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North™ – Legacy Edition revives this untold story with several major quality-of-life upgrades and technical modernisations, including:

    • Character Hot-Swapping: New to this edition, you can now seamlessly switch between your three heroes on the fly during gameplay, allowing you to manage abilities, gear, and tactics for AI-controlled party members in real time.
    • Modern Performance: Enjoy up to 60 FPS gameplay, smoother enemy target-locking, refined UI/UX (with visible party health, mana, and EXP bars), and much-needed auto-save functionality.
    • Refined Co-Op Play: Team up with up to 3 players online or tackle the campaign via 2-player local split-screen co-op.
    • Enhanced Controls: Gyro control support is now available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Whether you’re stealthily sniping as Eradan the Dúnadan Ranger, casting destructive magic as Andriel the Elven Loremaster, or bashing Orc heads as Farin the Dwarven Champion, the combat is just as visceral and satisfying as you remember—now running better than ever.
