Forget everything you know about counting sheep — this won’t put you to sleep. Brainfruit Studio has today unveiled Sheeps, a one-of-a-kind high-resolution pixel art roguelike that transforms the drowsy bedtime pastime into a razor-sharp, ever-escalating challenge that will keep you wide awake.
What on Earth Is Sheeps?
At first glance, it sounds simple: watch the sheep pass by, keep count, and report the right number. But this is no ordinary meadow — and these are no ordinary sheep:
- Waves of woolly chaos — flocks pour through from a mysterious, otherworldly rift, and they don’t just walk in straight lines
- Difficulty that ramps up fast — sheep change speed, loop back, split into groups, vanish, or appear in unexpected places. The better you get, the harder the game pushes back
- Health, upgrades & curses — get the count wrong and you lose ground; succeed and unlock permanent boosts, helpful effects, and occasionally… deeply unfair twists that keep every run fresh
- Endless replayability — no two flocks behave the same way, and your build evolves differently every time you play
Where Do All the Sheep Come From?
There’s a story beneath the fleecy surface. As you count, you’ll uncover the mystery of the rift itself — why it opened, who or what is behind it, and whether there’s any way to close it. Along the way you’ll meet a colourful cast:
- A crafty spider
- A sarcastic crow
- A dye-obsessed chameleon
- More than a few business-minded llamas — help is available, but it never comes free
These characters have their own secrets, motives, and stories — crafted by artist Garrett Miller and Emmy-winning writer Rob Dubbin (The Colbert Report, The Late Show). Expect charm, humour, and something genuinely strange unfolding beneath the pastoral visuals.
