  • Delving into Darkness: A Look at the Necropolis of the Damned in Across the Obelisk

Delving into Darkness: A Look at the Necropolis of the Damned in Across the Obelisk

Across the Obelisk has captivated roguelike deck-building fans with its engaging combat, deep customization, and endless replayability. With numerous zones to explore and challenges to overcome, the developers have consistently added new content to keep the adventure fresh. One of the most impactful additions, and a personal favorite of mine, is the Necropolis of the Damned.

This isn’t just another zone; it’s a significant expansion that plunges players into a grim, undead-infested wasteland, bringing new mechanics, enemies, and strategic considerations to the forefront. Let’s dive into what makes the Necropolis so compelling and often terrifying!

    A Bleak New Landscape

From the moment you enter, the Necropolis sets a distinct tone. The visuals are appropriately somber – decaying structures, skeletal remains, and an oppressive, eerie atmosphere permeate every encounter.

It feels genuinely like a place where hope has dwindled, and only the relentless march of the undead remains. This strong thematic presentation immediately draws you in and reinforces the new challenges ahead.

Unearthing New Horrors: The Undead Faction

The core of the Necropolis experience lies in its introduction of the Undead faction. These aren’t just reskinned enemies; they come with unique keywords and abilities that demand new strategies.

    • Reanimate: Many undead foes possess the “Reanimate” keyword, meaning they will return to life a certain number of times after being defeated, often with less health or different abilities. This forces you to think about sustained damage and target prioritization in a way that other zones don’t. Do you try to burst down a reanimating enemy multiple times, or focus on other threats that stay down for good?
    • Decay: Some undead apply “Decay” stacks, a nasty debuff that deals damage at the start of the affected character’s turn. This can quickly chip away at your health, putting pressure on your healers and defensive abilities.
    • Soul Harvest: Certain elite undead can “harvest” souls from fallen allies (or even your own heroes if you’re not careful!), gaining powerful buffs. This adds another layer of urgency to clear the board efficiently.

These mechanics make encounters significantly more complex and rewarding. You can’t just rely on the same old strategies; you need to adapt your deck and playstyle to effectively combat the endless hordes.

    New Challenges and Rewards

Beyond the standard encounters, the Necropolis offers unique events and elite battles that further test your mettle. You might stumble upon ancient crypts, confront powerful necromancers, or even face spectral dragons.

Successfully navigating these challenges can yield powerful new cards, artifacts, and even unique blessings that can turn the tide of your run. The risk-reward balance feels perfectly tuned, making every decision impactful.

    Strategic Implications for Team Composition

The Necropolis often forces players to reconsider their typical party compositions and card choices.

    • AoE vs. Single Target: While single-target burst can be great for taking down individual threats, the reanimate mechanic makes sustained AoE (Area of Effect) damage incredibly valuable for clearing out multiple revivifying enemies.
    • Heals and Cleanses: The prevalence of Decay means that healers and characters with cleanse abilities become far more important for mitigating constant health drain.
    • Silence/Stun: Disrupting powerful undead spellcasters or those with “Soul Harvest” can be crucial, making characters with silence or stun effects highly desirable.

This encourages experimentation and provides a fresh challenge for veteran players who might have settled into comfortable meta strategies.

    Final Thoughts

The Necropolis of the Damned is more than just an expansion; it’s a testament to the developers’ commitment to enriching the Across the Obelisk experience. It introduces a beautifully crafted, challenging, and strategically deep zone that truly feels like a distinct chapter in the game. If you haven’t ventured into its shadowed depths yet, gather your bravest heroes and prepare for a truly unforgettable (and unforgiving) journey. Just remember to pack plenty of holy water!

  • New Dangers Await: Diving into Dustwind: Resistance – Canyon Cross DLC

New Dangers Await: Diving into Dustwind: Resistance – Canyon Cross DLC

The wasteland never rests, and for the survivors of Dustwind: Resistance, peace is a fleeting dream. Just when you thought the threat of the Warlord was neutralized, a ruthless raider general has struck back, setting their sights on your allies’ settlement: Canyon Cross.

The Canyon Cross DLC has just dropped on Steam (November 25, 2025), pulling players back into the harsh, tactical world of real-time combat with pause. It’s time to lead Jake and his crew back into the fray, push your character’s skills, and remind the invaders why they shouldn’t mess with you.

What’s New in the Canyon Cross DLC?

This isn’t just a quick side quest—the Canyon Cross DLC adds a solid chunk of new content, expanding on the core game’s mechanics and lore.

    • Five New Missions: A fresh set of challenges and objectives will test your tactical prowess. You’ll need to employ a mix of Stealth, direct Strike missions, and desperate Protect operations to save your allies.
    • Five New Weapons: Get your hands on new elite weapons to broaden your combat options. The wasteland is a dangerous place, and a wider arsenal is always welcome.
    • Approximately Five Hours of Gameplay: Based on average play, you can expect a substantial addition to the Resistance campaign.
    • New Tactical Tools and Locations:
      • The Scraptrack is Back: Ride into action with your trusty armored car, a much-needed vehicle for navigating the post-apocalyptic landscapes.
      • Ancient Defense Systems: You’ll get to reawaken a long-abandoned bunker and a military satellite to literally rain fire from above on your enemies!
      • Expanded Lore: Discover more secrets about the Dustwind world as you explore new maps and landscapes.

For the Uninitiated: A Quick Look at Dustwind’s Gameplay

If you’re new to the Dustwind universe, the main game, Dustwind: Resistance, is an isometric, single-player tactical game inspired by classics like Fallout Tactics.

It features Real-Time Tactics with Pause (RTWP) gameplay. This means combat unfolds in real-time, but you can hit pause at any moment to strategically issue commands to your squad (including your loyal dog, Diesel) before unpausing to watch the chaos unfold.

The game is known for its challenging difficulty and deep character customization, where you can tailor your squad’s build, gear, and skill trees to fit a variety of playstyles—from heavily armored machine gunners to speedy melee fighters. Canyon Cross promises to let you push your character’s skills even further, which is great news for those who loved optimizing their builds.

    A Note on Console Release

PC players on Steam can jump in right now and start their fight to defend Canyon Cross!

However, PlayStation and Xbox players will unfortunately have to wait a little longer. The developers have postponed the console release until next year to ensure quality and manage their resources. Keep an eye out for updates if you’re planning to play on your PS5 or Xbox X|S!

    Ready for the Fight?

The relentless raider general is on the march, and the fate of Canyon Cross hangs in the balance. With new weapons, missions, and the ability to call down orbital strikes, the Canyon Cross DLC is a must-have expansion for any fan of Dustwind: Resistance.

Go remind those raiders why they were so wrong to mess with Jake and his crew!

Enter the Darkness: Necropolis of the Damned DLC Arrives!

The world of Senenthia is about to get a whole lot darker. Fans of the fantastic co-op roguelite deckbuilder, Across the Obelisk, can sharpen their blades and shuffle their decks because the new Necropolis of the Damned DLC is set to launch on December 2, 2025!

This dark fantasy horror-themed expansion promises to be the most chilling journey yet, swapping the familiar Act 4 for a cursed new path.

A Cursed Kingdom Awaits in The Dusk Lands

Forget The Void—your party is now heading into a gothic nightmare. The Necropolis of the Damned introduces The Dusk Lands, a brand-new, alternate Act 4 zone.

Once a thriving kingdom, this land is now tainted by a desperate pursuit of immortality, leading its rulers, the Count and Countess, down a dark path. Expect to traverse cursed forests and blood-soaked halls, facing three new mini-bosses and a terrifying new final boss waiting at the end of this grim tale.

This new zone isn’t just a cosmetic change; it’s a completely new narrative and a new ending that promises to twist the fate of Obelisk forever.

    New Heroes, Darker Power

What’s a dark new chapter without powerful new heroes to wield the shadows? The DLC introduces two formidable multiclass heroes, each bringing unique and complex mechanics to your party composition:

    1. Velarion, the Blood Mage

    • Role: Blends Healer and Mage roles.
    • Specialty: Velarion specializes in bleed and leech curses. He is a master of dark support, utilizing his own spellcasting to amplify the crippling effects of his curses on enemies. Get ready for some high-synergy, dark-magic builds!

    2. Nevermoor, the Death Knight

    • Role: A powerful Healer-Warrior hybrid.
    • Specialty: Nevermoor introduces a new rune-based system. Actions like attacking, defending, and healing generate different colored runes. These runes grant distinct buffs and effects, meaning your combat flow will be key to maximizing his power and keeping your team both alive and offensive.

    Infusions, Leeches, and More!

The introduction of these new heroes comes with intriguing new combat mechanics that are sure to shake up the meta:

    • Infuse (Aura): Expect a new type of persistent, beneficial effect your characters can use to empower themselves or their allies.
    • Leech (Curse): This new type of curse will allow you to drain power, life, or other resources from your enemies, fitting perfectly with the dark theme of the Necropolis.

On top of the mechanics, the DLC brings with it a host of new cards, equipment, and pets to unlock, ensuring countless new build possibilities and greater replayability for veteran players.

    A Free Update for All!

If you’re not ready to delve into the Necropolis just yet, the launch of the DLC is accompanied by a free update for the base game that all players can enjoy!

The highlight of the free update is the new Practice Mode. This safe environment allows you to test any card combo, deck configuration, or experimental setup without risking your resources or run progress. It’s a fantastic addition for theory-crafters and anyone looking to master the game’s deep deckbuilding elements.

    The Verdict

Across the Obelisk: Necropolis of the Damned looks like an essential expansion, offering a fresh, gothic Act 4 experience, two deeply complex new heroes, and mechanics that will open up exciting new team compositions. Whether you’re chasing a new ending or just looking for a new challenge, mark December 2, 2025 on your calendar.

  • Slaying the Vermin: Why Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is Still the King of Co-op Mayhem

Slaying the Vermin: Why Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is Still the King of Co-op Mayhem

The End Times are here, and frankly, they’re glorious. Since its release, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has solidified its place as one of the most visceral and satisfying co-op experiences in all of gaming. It’s a game of brutal, bloody close-quarters combat, where you and three friends become the only thing standing between the civilized world and endless, screeching tides of Skaven and Chaos forces.

If you’ve been looking for a reason to jump into the fray—or a reason to return—this is it.

The Ubersreik Five (or four, it doesn’t matter)

At its heart, Vermintide 2 is a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, but ramped up with a deep fantasy RPG layer and arguably the most impactful melee combat system ever created.

You choose one of five distinct heroes, each a fully realized character with their own background, voice lines (the banter is genuinely fantastic), and most importantly, three unique careers (classes). This is where the game’s depth truly shines:

Markus Kruber can be the tanky Foot Knight, the support Mercenary, or the ranged Huntsman.

Kerillian the Elf can be the stealthy assassin Shade, the powerful archer Waystalker, or the highly mobile Handmaiden.

And so on, for Bardin Goreksson the Dwarf, Victor Saltzpyre the Witch Hunter, and Sienna Fuegonasus the Bright Wizard.

With various talent trees, weapons, and abilities, no two matches play quite the same.

The Symphony of Slaughter: Combat That Matters

What keeps players coming back for hundreds—even thousands—of hours is the combat. It is heavy, impactful, and unforgiving. This isn’t just a simple hack-and-slash; it’s a desperate dance of survival:

Melee Focus: While ranged weapons are crucial for taking out special enemies, the vast majority of the time, you’ll be in the thick of a horde. You must master light attacks, heavy attacks, pushing, and, most critically, dodging and blocking.

Cleave and Impact: Every swing of your hammer, slice of your sword, or chop of your axe feels real. You cleave through waves of Clan Rats and Gutter Runners, watching them explode in chunks of gore and fur. The sound design alone is worth the price of admission.

Skill-Based: On higher difficulties, spamming attacks will get you killed instantly. Success is entirely dependent on your individual skill and, more importantly, teamwork. Callouts, covering your allies’ backs, and knowing when to use your career ability are the keys to victory.

    Enduring Challenges and New Adventures

Even years after its initial launch, Fatshark continues to support Vermintide 2. Beyond the main campaign’s challenging maps, the game boasts the excellent Chaos Wastes game mode.

This is a rogue-lite experience that throws your gear progression out the window, forcing you to use temporary buffs and boons acquired during the run. It’s a breath of fresh air that offers endless replayability and a different kind of challenge, making it a favorite among veterans.

Is Vermintide 2 Worth Playing in 2025?

    Absolutely.

The community is still active, the core gameplay is phenomenal, and the sheer volume of content available (especially with the career-specific DLCs) means you won’t run out of rats to slaughter anytime soon. If you love dark fantasy, cooperative play, and the feeling of carving your way through a seemingly endless swarm of enemies with a perfectly timed cleave, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is waiting for you.

Grab your friends, sharpen your blades, and prepare to spill some unholy blood. Sigmar demands it!

  • Dive Deep, Then Delve Deeper: Why Dave the Diver and “Into the Jungle” Are a Must-Play!

Dive Deep, Then Delve Deeper: Why Dave the Diver and “Into the Jungle” Are a Must-Play!

Dave the Diver has been making waves (pun absolutely intended) in the gaming world since its release, charming players with its unique blend of deep-sea exploration, sushi restaurant management, and quirky characters. But just when you thought you’d plumbed the depths of its delightful gameplay, Mintrocket dropped the “Into the Jungle” DLC, adding a whole new layer of adventure to an already fantastic experience.

If you haven’t jumped into the world of Dave yet, or if you’re wondering whether the new DLC is worth your time, let me tell you: both are an absolute treat.

The Allure of the Deep: What Makes Dave the Diver So Special?

At its core, Dave the Diver is a game about, well, diving and serving sushi. But it’s the seamless way these two seemingly disparate elements are woven together that makes it so compelling.

Underwater Wonderland: Each dive into the Blue Hole is a discovery. The vibrant marine life, the mysterious sunken ruins, and the ever-present danger of sharks and other deep-sea creatures create a thrilling and often surprising experience. You’ll spend your days spearfishing, catching exotic species, and scavenging for materials, all while trying to manage your oxygen and inventory. The exploration feels genuinely rewarding, and the procedurally generated elements keep each dive fresh.

  • Full Force Burst: Our Review of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4!

Full Force Burst: Our Review of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4!

Welcome back, Nakama! If you’re a fan of the legendary One Piece anime and manga, you’ve likely dreamt of unleashing a massive Gum-Gum Pistol or shattering the ground with an Earthquake Punch. Well, the Musou magic of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 brings that power fantasy to life, letting you steamroll through thousands of enemies as your favorite pirates.

Is this the ultimate voyage for Straw Hat fans, or does it sink under the weight of its massive crew? Let’s dive into our full breakdown!

A True One Piece Power Trip

Pirate Warriors 4 is, at its core, an Omega Force-developed Musou (or “Warriors”) game. That means you’ll be dropped onto a massive battlefield, facing literally thousands of enemies who are little more than cannon fodder for your incredible power. The thrill of chaining together devastating combos that send hundreds of Marines flying is the lifeblood of this game.

    What Makes it Stand Out?

    • Air Combos: A new addition to the formula, the emphasis on air combos dramatically changes the flow of combat. Every character can launch enemies and take the fight to the sky, adding a layer of depth and visual flair to the already frantic action. Characters like Sanji, who thrive in the air, feel distinct and incredibly satisfying to master.
    • Destructible Environments: For the first time, you can truly feel the weight of your attacks as buildings and terrain crumble around you. This, coupled with smoke and dust effects, makes the battlefields feel far more dynamic and chaotic—a real “One Piece battlefield.”
    • Character Class Types: The massive roster is sorted into four playstyles—Power, Speed, Technique, and the new Sky type—which helps differentiate their movesets and playstyles, encouraging you to try out a wide variety of fighters.

    The Grand Line of Content

The game offers plenty of ways to experience the One Piece saga and grind your characters to peak pirate power.

    1. The Story: Dramatic Log

The main story mode, the Dramatic Log, covers major arcs from the beginning of the series all the way up to the Land of Wano arc. While it does skip some of the quieter narrative moments (you’re here for the battles, after all!), it excels at recreating the biggest, most emotional, and most spectacular moments of the anime with fully-voiced cutscenes and in-engine recreations.

    2. Post-Story Fun: Treasure Log

Once the main story is complete, the Treasure Log offers unique side-missions with varied objectives and increasing difficulty. This is where you’ll spend most of your time unlocking new characters, earning powerful materials, and grinding for those coveted S-Ranks.

    3. Deep Progression System

Beyond just leveling up, each character has their own unique skill tree. There’s also a universal skill tree that applies passive bonuses to the entire roster, allowing for interesting decisions about whether to focus your resources on one favorite character or spread the love across your growing crew.

    The Best of the Roster

With over 40 characters at launch and many more added through extensive DLC, the roster is a treasure chest of fan favorites. While every character is capable, a few stand out as truly game-breaking powerhouses:

CharacterClassWhy They’re King of the Pirates
Charlotte KatakuriSpeedInsane damage per second (DPS), excellent range, and a self-heal special move that makes him almost unstoppable.
KaidoPower/GiantHis Dragon Form annihilates everything on screen. Pure, unadulterated power and crowd control.
Monkey D. LuffySpeed/SkyHis various Gear Forms (especially Gear 4: Bounce Man) are a pure spectacle and deliver massive damage. Versatile and always fun.
WhitebeardPower/GiantWhile his normal attacks can be slow, his special moves and sheer power output are soul-crushingly strong, great for clearing maps fast.

Pro-Tip: Keep an eye on the extensive DLC! Character Passes 1, 2, and 3 have added fan-demanded pirates like Yamato, Uta, and characters from the recent Egghead arc.

The Verdict: Is It Worth Setting Sail?

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is a phenomenal entry into the Musou genre and a spectacular tribute to the One Piece series.

While it retains some genre flaws—like simplistic objectives and the occasional camera hiccup during boss fights—its smart additions to the combat system, the sheer joy of leveling up your favorite characters, and the incredible feeling of being an unstoppable force easily outweigh its shortcomings.

If you are a One Piece fan, this game is a must-buy. It’s a cathartic power fantasy that lets you live out the anime’s biggest battles. If you are new to the series but enjoy hack-and-slash games, you’ll find a massive amount of content and a surprisingly deep combat system to enjoy.

Megatech is Here: Taking Astroneer Basebuilding to Cosmic New Heights!

Greetings, fellow space explorers! The solar system just got a whole lot bigger and more automated with the release of the ASTRONEER: Megatech DLC. If you thought your base was grand before, prepare to level up your engineering skills and logistical prowess, because this expansion is all about building on a truly colossal scale.

Megatech isn’t just a small addition; it’s a game-changer that pushes your mid-to-late-game infrastructure into the realm of megastructures. It’s designed to seamlessly integrate with your existing saves, challenging you to find new ways to connect your creations with both new and existing technology.

    The Paid Megastructure Projects

The heart of the Megatech DLC lies in three massive, exclusive megastructure projects that will test your resource-gathering and automation ingenuity.

    • The Orbital Platform: The pinnacle of space-based engineering! This is your ultimate customizable space station, built around a unique asteroid of your choosing in orbit of a planet. Think flat, expansive terrain for building a true space hub, offering a new centralized location for your interstellar operations.

  • Hearts of Iron IV: No Compromise, No Surrender—The Pacific Ablaze!

Hearts of Iron IV: No Compromise, No Surrender—The Pacific Ablaze!

The global conflict of World War II is vast, but the crucible of the Asia-Pacific Theater has just received a massive, strategic upgrade. Paradox Development Studio’s latest major expansion for Hearts of Iron IV, No Compromise, No Surrender, dives deep into the turbulent history of the Far East, offering a rich, nuanced, and entirely re-imagined experience for several key nations.

This isn’t just about new borders; it’s about new paths for empires, revolutions, and resistance. Let’s look at what this expansion brings to the grand strategy table.

New National Focus Trees: Reshaping the East

The heart of the No Compromise, No Surrender expansion lies in the comprehensive overhaul of several nations locked in the Pacific conflict. Each nation now boasts extensive, new focus trees that let you explore a blend of historical accuracy and wild, alternate-history possibilities.

Japan: The Rising Sun’s New Paths

The Empire of Japan receives a complete strategic rework, pushing players to address the logistical and political challenges of its aggressive expansion. Your goals go beyond military conquest; you’ll have to manage internal politics, secure vital energy and naval supplies, and carefully navigate potential rebellions across your vast holdings. Will you usher in a dominant empire, pursue a communist ‘Red Dawn,’ or forge a path entirely your own?

China: A Nation Divided and Reunited

The struggle for China gets its much-needed attention with separate, deeply engaging focus trees for both the Nationalist China (led by the Republic) and Communist China.

    • Nationalist China: You must crush the warlords, consolidate the republic, and stand against the hostile Empires threatening your sovereignty.
    • Communist China: Focus on uniting the populace, driving out the old order, and leading the nation toward its rightful ascendancy, all while balancing internal and external threats.

The entire map of Asia, including China, has been reworked for greater detail, offering more realistic terrain and opportunities for guerrilla warfare mechanics to take hold in your fight for resistance and occupation.

    The Philippines: Defiance and Diplomacy

For the first time, the Philippines steps into the strategic spotlight with a unique focus tree. Your challenge is one of defiance and survival. You must defend the islands, secure independence from invaders, and use your abundant natural resources to negotiate and forge alliances with surprising partners. This nation offers a compelling gameplay experience focused on smart diplomacy and leveraging a small, resource-rich position to influence the world war.

    System Overhauls: Deeper Strategy

The expansion also brings fundamental changes to core game systems, making it a must-have even for those not immediately drawn to the Pacific Theater.

    Expanded Faction System

The old, often underwhelming faction system has been completely transformed. Factions now have greater depth and purpose, with new rules and over 150 predefined goals—ranging from short-term aims to long-term ideological dominance. This grants you greater control over allied countries, allowing for more cooperative and strategically defined alliances with your chosen partners.

    New Military Doctrines

Say goodbye to the old doctrines! The game introduces an overhaul to the core doctrines system for the army, navy, and air force. You can now shape and reform your armed forces with unique doctrines tailored to your specific battlefield requirements. Look out for the new Hybrid Doctrines, which let you combine naval and land strategies to better suit the Pacific’s island-hopping campaigns.

    Naval Combat Improvements

Naval warfare—a cornerstone of the Pacific War—has been enhanced. The expansion introduces improved carrier mechanics, updates to naval combat, and the addition of new Naval Special Projects like Seaplane Tenders. These changes mean that mastering the seas is now a far more intricate and rewarding strategic challenge.

    No Compromise, No Surrender

Hearts of Iron IV: No Compromise, No Surrender isn’t just a geographical expansion; it’s a complete transformation of the Asia-Pacific experience. With four powerful new focus trees, a complete revamp of Factions and Military Doctrines, and a significant improvement to naval combat, this DLC ensures that whether you’re striving for global dominion or simply fighting for national survival, the path to victory will demand nothing less than every ounce of your strategic genius.

The tides of war are rising. Will you forge a new history?

  • Borderlands 4 – Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day

Borderlands 4 – Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day

Hey Vault Hunters! Gearbox dropped a festive bombshell with “Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day,” and let me tell you, it’s the chaotic holiday cheer we never knew we needed. Move over, Krampus, because Rush, the most surprisingly endearing psycho in the Borderlands, just became the undisputed king of Mercenary Day.

    The Grinch Who Stole… Bullets?

The premise is pure Borderlands genius. A nefarious, yet hilariously incompetent, syndicate known as “The Gift Wrappers” decided that Mercenary Day was too merry, and, more importantly, that all the good loot should belong to them. Their plan? To steal all the festive weaponry, explosive presents, and delicious health-granting fruitcakes across Pandora. The nerve! This naturally plunged the remaining sane (and insane) inhabitants into a pre-holiday funk, with tales of children crying over empty weapon chests and bandits actually sharing their un-looted goods out of sheer dejection.

    Enter Rush: The Unlikely Hero

This is where Rush shines. Remember him? The guy who usually charges headfirst into explosions screaming about meat bicycles? Yeah, that Rush. Turns out, even psychos have a soft spot for exploding gingerbread men and shiny new legendary shotguns. He stumbles into the main questline, not out of altruism, but because someone stole his “lucky holiday spork” (a legendary relic, naturally, with a +50% melee damage bonus).

His motivation might be selfish, but his methods are… effective. Watching Rush navigate the festive, yet still incredibly deadly, landscapes of Pandora, all while spouting increasingly nonsensical holiday-themed battle cries, is an absolute riot. He’s like a deranged, high-octane Santa, except instead of gifts, he’s delivering pure, unadulterated mayhem to anyone who stands between him and his spork (and by extension, Mercenary Day).

New Enemies, New Loot, Same Old Mayhem

The Gift Wrappers themselves are a treat. Imagine bandits dressed in oversized bows and wrapping paper armor, wielding guns that shoot glitter bombs and exploding fruit. Their boss, “Jingle Jangle,” is a hulking brute who dual-wields candy cane shotguns and has a penchant for dramatic monologues about the “true meaning of greed.”

The new loot pool is, as expected, gloriously over-the-top. We’re talking guns that play holiday jingles when reloaded, grenades that explode into a shower of corrosive tinsel, and shields that project festive force fields. And of course, the legendary “Lucky Holiday Spork” lives up to its name, turning Rush into an unstoppable, holiday-fueled whirlwind of destruction.

    Memorable Moments

    • Rush’s “Silent Night” Solo: Picture this: Rush, standing atop a mountain of defeated Gift Wrappers, illuminated by the glow of a thousand exploding presents, attempting to sing “Silent Night” in his gravelly, off-key voice. Truly a masterpiece.
    • The Sleigh Ride from Hell: A mission where you have to escort a makeshift, weaponized sleigh (pulled by a very confused Rakk) through a gauntlet of Gift Wrapper strongholds. Expect rockets, lasers, and a lot of screaming.
    • The Fruitcake Massacre: A wave-based challenge where you have to defend a giant, sentient fruitcake from hordes of hungry bandits. The fruitcake occasionally shouts encouragement (or insults, depending on its mood).

    Final Thoughts

“Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day” is everything you want from Borderlands DLC. It’s hilarious, action-packed, full of memorable characters, and stuffed with fantastic loot. Rush is a breakout star, proving that even the most unhinged individuals can find a cause worth fighting for, especially when that cause involves exploding presents and a stolen spork.

If you haven’t jumped into this festive frenzy yet, what are you waiting for? Go save Mercenary Day, Vault Hunter! Rush (and his spork) are counting on you!

  • Bushido and Brutality: A Look at Bellfortis – The Battle for Japan

Bushido and Brutality: A Look at Bellfortis – The Battle for Japan

If you’ve been looking for a grand strategy experience that won’t require a semester’s worth of free time, you might have found your match. The original Bellfortis offered a streamlined, fast-paced dive into the European Early Middle Ages, combining turn-based strategy with real-time tactical battles. Now, the developers at Rake in Grass are trading Viking raids for samurai duels with the Bellfortis – The Battle for Japan expansion!

This DLC plunges players into the turbulent world of mid-16th century Japan—a period of intense civil war and a fierce race for unification.

What is Bellfortis – The Battle for Japan?

This expansion shifts the action to the Japanese islands during the Sengoku Jidai, a time when powerful feudal lords, or Daimyo, fought for supremacy. It’s a compelling historical setting that perfectly translates to the grand strategy genre.

Here’s the core loop you can expect:

    • Grand Strategy Map: The game utilizes a large strategic map where you manage your provinces, handle domestic affairs, and move your armies. This part of the game is turn-based, giving you time to think and plan your next move.
    • Real-Time Battles: When your army clashes with an enemy’s, the game transitions into a real-time battle. This is where your tactical skill comes into play, as you directly command your units on the battlefield. Think of it as a quicker, more ‘arcade-style’ take on the battle system of a game like Total War.

    New Frontiers, New Threats

The Battle for Japan isn’t just a map swap; it introduces a new historical context that changes how you approach conquest:

    Sengoku Jidai Setting

You’ll choose from one of the powerful Japanese clans vying to become the unifying Shogun. This means navigating complex alliances, brutal rivalries, and the constant threat of being backstabbed by a neighboring lord. The DLC features two new maps where you can play as up to 10 distinct factions.

    Beyond the Clans

The conflict isn’t purely internal. The Joseon Empire and the Ming Dynasty are watching from the nearby mainland, adding an extra layer of geopolitical complexity and potential military intervention that will test your diplomatic and military prowess.

    Modern Warfare Arrives

Unlike the medieval European setting of the base game, this era sees the rise of firearms and early rocket precursors. Your military strategy will need to adapt to these new unit types, balancing traditional samurai and ashigaru with gun-wielding infantry.

A Strategy Game for the Rest of Us

The original Bellfortis was designed to capture the essence of sprawling grand strategy games like Crusader Kings or Total War: Medieval II, but in a more accessible and time-friendly package.

If you love the depth of political intrigue, economic management, and military campaigns but don’t have hundreds of hours to invest in a single playthrough, this is where Bellfortis shines. Campaigns are designed to be completed in a reasonable amount of time, making it the perfect choice for strategy enthusiasts who need a game they can pick up and put down.

    Key Mechanics You’ll Master:

    • Province Management: Build structures, manage taxes, and keep your people happy to fuel your war machine.
    • Diplomacy & Espionage: Secure alliances, vassalize weaker neighbors, or use spies to sow chaos and gather intelligence—conquest by clever politics is just as valid as conquest by force.
    • Dynamic Events: Expect plagues, rebellions, and political opportunities to pop up, keeping you on your toes.

Bellfortis – The Battle for Japan looks like a strong expansion that delivers the core strengths of the base game—a satisfying blend of grand strategy and real-time tactics—in an exciting new setting.

Are you ready to carve your name into Japanese history?

  • Nightwatchers DLC: Another Storm Rises in Against the Storm

Nightwatchers DLC: Another Storm Rises in Against the Storm

The Blightstorm rages on, and just when we thought we’d mastered the endless deluge, Against the Storm throws us back into the deep end with the Nightwatchers DLC. Eremite Games’ fantastic roguelite city-builder is famous for its relentless challenges and incredible replayability, and this expansion injects a massive dose of fresh mechanics, new species, and brutal biomes.

Ready your Viceroys—it’s time to dive into what makes this latest expansion a must-have for fans.

The Bats: A Fierce, Volatile Species

The headlining feature of Nightwatchers is the introduction of the seventh playable species: the Bats. These are not your typical cuddly villagers. Having lived in isolation underground, they are stern, resilient, and fiercely devoted, but they have a distinct disdain for weakness.

    • Metallurgy Experts: The Bats bring unmatched expertise in metallurgy to your settlements, excelling in production chains that involve metals and bars.
    • The Manorial Court: Their signature ability is a moral quandary. The Manorial Court building allows you to expel a member of another species. This harsh punishment isn’t just cruel; it motivates the remaining workers, with the Bats themselves gaining Resolve when other species leave the settlement. A volatile but potentially powerful tool for Viceroys willing to make a tough choice.
    • Unique Needs: Like every species, they have new needs to juggle, including new goods like Biscuits and Skewers, adding further complexity to your production chains.

    Two New, Formidable Biomes

The DLC expands the world map with two biomes, each introducing unique environmental challenges and allies.

    1. The Rocky Ravine

This is an unforgiving, barren landscape where even the “trees” are made of stone. The focus here is a brutal resource swap:

    • Stone-Rich, Wood-Poor: You’ll find yourself flush with stone and metal ores, but traditional wood is scarce.
    • The Black Market: To survive, you must rely on the Black Market, a new mechanic that introduces smugglers with highly volatile prices. Leveraging this market—which operates outside the Scorched Queen’s sight—is key to acquiring the resources you need, but be wary of the risks involved!

    2. The Bamboo Flats

A lush, verdant region, the Bamboo Flats initially sounds inviting, but the heavy rainfall creates its own unique problem: a severe lack of fertile soil.

    • The Fluffbeak Ally: Your lifeline here is the giant Fluffbeak. This peculiar creature can produce copious amounts of fertilizer, allowing you to strategically enrich small areas of soil to start your farms.
    • Nurturing the Beast: To reap the rewards, you must carefully manage the Fluffbeak’s needs (hunger, thirst, and warmth), turning it into a high-stakes, high-reward farm management minigame.

More Content to Deepen the Struggle

Beyond the species and biomes, Nightwatchers introduces a wealth of content that dramatically increases variety and replayability:

    • New World Events: Face an increasingly powerful criminal organization, deal with explosive alchemical experiments, and confront a tree-eating beast (the Grazer) that inadvertently opens glades.
    • New Modifiers & Cornerstones: Three new World Map Modifiers, including one that limits your Cornerstone usage, will force you to adapt your overarching strategy. This is paired with three new Legendary Cornerstones to keep the power curve interesting.
    • The Free 1.8 Update: Dropping alongside the DLC, a free update adds features like Commons (allowing villagers to fulfill some service needs at the Hearth), Town Statistics, and Mirroring Buildings, dramatically improving quality of life for all players.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth It?

For veterans of Against the Storm, the Nightwatchers DLC is an essential purchase. It doesn’t just add new content; it introduces fundamentally different ways to approach the core city-building loop. The Bats’ grim efficiency and the environmental pressures of the new biomes force Viceroys to evolve their strategies beyond what was previously possible.

While some players find the Bats to be a “niche” or “tricky” species to manage (a common sentiment for highly specialized Against the Storm content), the sheer variety added by the new biomes and unique mechanics—especially the high-stakes Fluffbeak management—makes the Blightstorm a compelling place to explore once again.

If you are looking for new, demanding challenges in the constant rain, the Nightwatchers are waiting.

What new feature are you most excited to try? The ruthless efficiency of the Bats or the delicate farming balance of the Bamboo Flats? Let us know in the comments!
