  • ONE LIFE. NO SECOND CHANCES. OSRS HARDCORE WORLDS ARE HERE — AND DEATH IS FINAL

ONE LIFE. NO SECOND CHANCES. OSRS HARDCORE WORLDS ARE HERE — AND DEATH IS FINAL

In Gielinor, you’ve returned from the brink a thousand times. You’ve fallen to dragons, demons, and your own hubris — and you’ve always respawned. Not anymore. Jagex: The RuneScape Company has officially launched Hardcore Worlds — a permanent, separate game mode for Old School RuneScape where every character gets exactly one life. No respawns. No do-overs. Death means the end of the road.

THE SAME GIELINOR — BUT EVERY STEP COUNTS

Hardcore Worlds aren’t a stripped-back spin-off — they’re the full Old School RuneScape experience with one ruthless rule change:

    • All the content remains — same quests, same bosses, same skills, same economy, same XP rates and drop rates
    • Trading, Grand Exchange, and multiplayer — fully functional; you’re not alone in this
    • Separate economy — progress and wealth stay within Hardcore Worlds; nothing transfers to your main account until you die
    • No respawns — 99% of deaths are permanent; only a tiny handful of minigames and scenarios offer protection
    • No safety nets — even your Player-Owned House, the Fight Caves, and the Inferno count as deadly. If you fall, you fall for good

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FALL? THE REAPER’S CHOICE

Death isn’t the end — but it’s the end of this journey. When your character falls, you’re taken to Death’s Office, where you face two stark options:

    ChoiceWhat Happens
ResetWipe your Hardcore progress entirely and start fresh. Your place in Hardcore Worlds continues — but you build from zero again
Move to Main GameKeep your character, stats, and Items Kept on Death — but leave Hardcore Worlds behind forever. Anything not in your kept items list is lost

There’s no third option. No resurrection. No undo button. Every choice — every inventory loadout, every risky boss run, every Wilderness dash — carries real weight.

ENTERING THE REALM — HOW TO BEGIN

    To step into Hardcore Worlds:

    • Create a brand-new character (Tutorial Island not yet completed)
    • Speak to Death’s Delegate — a new NPC waiting near Paul the Iron Tutor
    • Confirm your resolve with the Magic Instructor — who will warn you that Death has taken an interest in you
    • Finish Tutorial Island and spawn directly into Death’s Office — then hop to one of 30 dedicated Hardcore Worlds
    • Membership required — Hardcore Worlds are exclusive to subscribers

THE REAPER’S RAFFLE — PROVE YOUR Mettle, WIN REAL-WORLD PRIZES

To celebrate launch, Jagex has unveiled The Reaper’s Raffle (4–30 November 2026):

    • Complete PvM, Skilling, and Wilderness tasks on Hardcore Worlds to earn entries
    • Progress carries over even if you die — your work isn’t wasted when you fall
    • First entry granted just for logging in during the launch window
    • Multiple tiers of rewards up for grabs

A NEW STANDARD — THE HARDEST CHALLENGE IN GIELINOR

Hardcore Worlds sit apart from existing modes:

    • Not Ironman — you can trade, bank, and play with others freely
    • More unforgiving than Hardcore Ironman — far fewer safe zones; almost every death is permanent
    • Permanent — this isn’t a temporary event; these worlds are here to stay
    • Future-proof — every update, quest, and boss coming to OSRS will also arrive in Hardcore Worlds — with the same single-life rule

“This is the truest test of skill, preparation, and nerve in Old School RuneScape. Every item matters. Every decision counts. And every moment could be your last.” — Jagex

    WILL YOU STEP FORWARD?

Thirty worlds are open. Death is waiting. The question isn’t whether you’ll fall — it’s how far you’ll rise before you do.

Hardcore Worlds — live now in Old School RuneScape. Members only. One life. Make it count.
