Funcom®, in a powerhouse partnership with Inflexion Games, has officially dropped the curtain on Conan® Exiles Enhanced. Now live on Steam, this isn’t your typical seasonal update; it is a ground-up technical resurrection that drags the brutal world of Hyboria kicking and screaming into the Unreal Engine 5 era.
Timed perfectly to celebrate the game’s 8th anniversary (May 8, 2026), this massive upgrade is completely free for all current and future owners of the game on Steam. Here is why you need to clear some hard drive space (well, actually less space) and dive back in.
A Visual Resurrection: Unreal Engine 5
The jump to Unreal Engine 5 brings more than just a fresh coat of paint. By leveraging modern rendering technology, Funcom and Inflexion Games have overhauled the entire visual experience:
- Lumen & Nanite: Expect breathtaking real-time lighting and hyper-detailed geometry that make the Exiled Lands feel more atmospheric than ever.
- Performance Targets: The game now targets a smooth 60+ FPS across most PC configurations, from Low to Ultra settings.
- Steam Deck Verified: Portable survivalists rejoice—the “Enhanced” version has been specifically optimised for the Steam Deck for smooth survival on the go.
- Massive File Shrink: In a feat of technical wizardry, the game’s install size has been slashed from roughly 120GB down to approx. 40GB–68GB.
Two Worlds, One Map: The Great Unification
In perhaps the biggest gameplay change since launch, the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah are no longer separate menu choices.

If you own the Isle of Siptah expansion, you can now teleport between the two massive regions with the same character. This unification also applies to multiplayer servers, which can now host both maps simultaneously, creating a truly gargantuan playground for clans.
Modern Quality of Life
The collaboration with Inflexion Games (the studio behind Nightingale) has introduced several features the community has been begging for:
- Multiple Characters: You can now maintain and switch between multiple single-player characters on one account without deleting your progress.
- Smart Crafting: Crafting stations can now pull materials directly from nearby storage chests and follower inventories—no more “chest-shuffling” to build a stone wall.
- Revamped UI: The menus have been modernised for faster navigation and a cleaner aesthetic.
- Day-One Mod Support: Funcom worked closely with the modding community to ensure popular mods and the Mod Dev Kit were ready the moment the update went live.
Availability and the “Legacy” Version
As of today, Conan Exiles Enhanced is a Steam exclusive.
While consoles (Xbox and PlayStation) will remain on the original Unreal Engine 4 version for now, Funcom has noted that future platform releases are “being evaluated.” For those on Epic Games Store or Windows Store, the game will continue as “Conan Exiles Legacy,” maintaining the status quo without the UE5 bells and whistles.
