Solo indie developer Anas Sammak has officially released a free playable demo on Steam for INURE, a chilling first-person cosmic survival horror game created independently over the course of more than two years in Damascus, Syria.
Crafted with passion amidst the technical and practical challenges of solo game development, INURE offers a deeply atmospheric experience where beauty and dread exist side-by-side.
What Is INURE?
In INURE, you step into the shoes of Detective Marc Whitecloud, who is investigating the mysterious, unexplained disappearance of 28 people. When a sudden lead pulls him into the Dreamlands—a hostile, surreal dimension where the fundamental laws of reality no longer apply—Marc finds himself trapped in a fight for survival against forces beyond human understanding.
The newly released free demo gives players roughly an hour of gameplay to test their nerves, explore unsettling environments, and get a taste of what Sammak has spent over two years crafting.

INURE blends classic survival horror tension with modern, immersive mechanics:
- Tactile Physics-Driven World: Experience a tangible environment where you can physically lift, drag, inspect, and manipulate objects. Players can ease doors open gently, clear physical obstacles, or use surrounding objects to create distance from threats.
- Tight Inventory & Resource Management: True to the survival horror genre, space in your inventory is severely limited. You’ll need to carefully manage supplies, ration healing items, and craft consumables on the fly.
- Scarcity & Strategic Combat: Weapons and ammunition are available, but firepower won’t always save you. Ammunition is extremely scarce, forcing you to pick your battles wisely or find creative ways to avoid danger entirely.
- Surreal Cosmic Horror: Set in a haunting, handcrafted world, INURE balances breathtaking visual design with deeply wrong, unsettling horrors.
A Passionate Solo Endeavour
Developing an ambitious 3D survival horror game as a solo creator is no easy feat—let alone doing so from Damascus over two years. Speaking on the project, Anas Sammak shared his vision for the game:
“My goal is to make the strongest game I possibly can, one that combines horror, action, and exploration within a fun and atmospheric journey.”
With a planned 2 to 3-hour focused full campaign, INURE is shaping up to be a tight, memorable indie horror experience.
