The studio has officially dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer for its upcoming title, Gone Digging, offering gamers a closer look at its chaotic blend of digging, exploration, and survival simulation.
Coming soon to Steam, Gone Digging drops 1 to 4 players into a high-stakes underground thriller where team coordination—or sheer greedy desperation—will mean the difference between getting rich and becoming monster food.
Dig Together by Day, Feed the Darkness by Night
At first glance, Gone Digging starts with a deceptively simple premise: grab a shovel, head into unstable cave systems, and extract as much valuable loot as humanly possible. Players can sell their underground discoveries to a roaming merchant to fund crucial tool upgrades, gear progression, and survival equipment.
However, the game quickly shifts from a cosy mining simulation into a tense, unpredictable survival horror.
The core gameplay centres around a strict day-and-night cycle with a terrifying twist:
- Daytime Excavation: Explore claustrophobic tunnels, search for rare artefacts, and decide whether to stick together or split up to maximise profit before time runs out.
- The Nightly Sacrifice: Every evening, an evil entity lurking in the dark demands an offering. Offer up rare loot to purchase your safety for another night.
- Nightfall Terror: If you fall short of the required sacrifice—or give in to greed and horde the valuable loot for yourselves—the caves turn hostile, deadly monsters emerge, and simple cooperation devolves into a desperate fight to see the next sunrise.
A Humorous, Chaotic Take on Co-Op Survival
While the game packs genuine atmospheric tension and horror elements, NewGen has woven in plenty of humour, unpredictable physics, and social dynamics. Whether you’re making questionable decisions with your teammates, accidentally causing a cave-in, or deciding which friend to throw to the monsters to save your own skin, Gone Digging is built to create unforgettable co-op moments.
Independent studio NewGen, based in Tunisia, is building the title with community interaction at its heart. Planned to launch initially in Steam Early Access, the developers plan to use player feedback to fine-tune map balance, expand the roster of monsters, and introduce even more digging tools and mysterious artefacts.
