The “Cursed West” is about to get a whole lot bigger. Following its successful debut on Steam, publisher indie.io and solo developer Michael Janisch have officially announced that the atmospheric Western horror survival experience, Hauntsville, is making the leap to PlayStation 5 on May 13, 2026.
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if the gritty realism of Red Dead Redemption collided with the supernatural dread of a folklore-inspired horror game, Hauntsville is your answer.
Survive the Cursed West
In Hauntsville, players find themselves stranded as a nameless traveller in a desolate ghost town on the American frontier. The horses are gone, the sun is setting, and that howling in the distance definitely isn’t a coyote.
To survive, you’ll need more than just a quick draw. You’ll have to:
- Build & Fortify: Establish a homestead to shelter yourself from the elements and the things that go bump in the night.
- Scavenge & Craft: Search abandoned settlements for supplies and craft period-accurate weaponry, from Colts to Winchesters.
- Hunt to Live: Keep yourself fed by hunting local wildlife—but be careful not to become the prey yourself.
Folklore and Fear
What sets Hauntsville apart is its deep dive into North American folklore. You aren’t just fighting outlaws; you’re facing supernatural entities that lurk in the shadows of the mountains and the fog of the valley. The game features a dynamic weather system and a day/night cycle that dictates your safety. While the sun is up, you can explore and build; when night falls, the “Cursed West” truly earns its name.

Survival is a lonely business, but it doesn’t have to be. Hauntsville on PS5 supports online co-op for up to four players.
