    N’Kuhana’s Call: Everything We Know About Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts

    The forecast on Petrichor V just got a lot darker. Following the recent Triple-i Initiative showcase, Gearbox and 2K have officially pulled back the curtain on the next major expansion for our favourite planetary roguelike: Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts.

    If Survivors of the Void was about the encroaching purple corruption of the Moon’s mirror dimension, Hallowed Concepts feels like a descent into the ancient, ritualistic lore of the planet itself. Specifically, it’s time to talk about N’Kuhana.

    The Deep Lore: “She Is Watching”

    Longtime players know N’Kuhana as the goddess of decay and “The Concept of Death.” Until now, her presence has been limited to cryptic item descriptions and the hidden altar in the Wetland Aspect.

    Hallowed Concepts is leaning heavily into this “cult-like” aesthetic. The trailer teased the Hidden Secrets of the N’tormat, suggesting that the expansion will explore the fanatical followers of N’Kuhana and the biological horror of her “gifts.”

    New Stages: Back to the Roots

    The expansion is set to introduce several new environments that look significantly more organic and “fleshy” than the industrial or crystalline stages of previous updates:

    • Tenebrous Quagmire: A haunting village-scape home to the gibbering Lynx Tribe.
    • The Lurid Basilica: A sacred ground where chanting followers still perform ancient rites.
    • Damp Caverns: A returning favourite from the original Risk of Rain, reimagined in 3D and filled with “fungal beasts.”

    Survivors and Items: Curses and Power

    While we don’t have the full kit reveals yet, Gearbox confirmed two new playable Survivors are joining the roster. Based on the “Hallowed” theme, fans are speculating that one might be a cultist or a character heavily reliant on the “Corruption” mechanics seen in the Hallowed Mod (which likely served as spiritual inspiration for this official DLC).

    Key Features Expected:

    • Powerful Curses: A new tier of items or status effects that offer massive power at a high cost to the player’s health or stability.
    • The Lynx Tribe: A new faction of enemies that looks to be more agile and swarm-oriented than the standard Lemurians.
    • Deadly Trials: Rumours of mid-stage “Ritual” events that players can trigger for high-tier loot.

    When Can We Play?

    As of April 2026, the official release date is still listed as TBD 2026. However, with the announcement trailer now live and the Steam page available for wishlisting, we expect a late summer or autumn launch.

    TechMash Verdict: Risk of Rain 2 continues to prove it has one of the best post-launch pipelines in the genre. By pivoting away from the Void and into the deeper biological lore of N’Kuhana, Hallowed Concepts looks set to bring a much-needed “spooky” variety to the current stage rotation.
