Hook, Line, and Sinker: Post-Apocalyptic Fishing Adventure DREADMOOR Drops First Public Playtest for Steam Ocean Fest!

Move over, cosy fishing simulators—there is something deeply unsettling lurking in the water, and we are absolutely here for it.

DREADMOOR, the highly anticipated dark, first-person fishing adventure from developer Dream Dock and publisher Digital Vortex Entertainment, has officially hit a massive milestone, sailing past 200,000 Steam wishlists. To celebrate, the team is throwing open the gates to the Submerged Lands by participating in Steam Ocean Fest.

What does that mean for you? The game’s first-ever public playtest is live right now on PC via Steam! If you want to experience the terrifying side of the tide, you’ll want to jump in quickly.

Reel for Your Life in a Drowned World

If your immediate thought upon hearing “horror fishing” is Dredge, you’re on the right track—but DREADMOOR steers the genre into much darker, more visceral territory. Rather than managing a boat from a distant overhead camera, you are dropped directly into a gritty, tactile first-person perspective.

Set in an early 20th-century bayou devastated by a catastrophic plague and nuclear ruin, you play as a lone survivor piloting a battered fishing trawler through a flooded, rotting world. Here, fishing isn’t a relaxing side-quest or a meditative pastime; it is a desperate, heart-pounding struggle for survival.

Check out the core gameplay loop you’ll be navigating:

    • Fish What Lurks Below: Cast your line into murky, irradiated waters to catch rare, heavily mutated species. But keep an eye on your haul—these hyper-aggressive sea creatures won’t hesitate to devour each other right inside your boat’s hold.
    • Scavenge & Craft: The waters are littered with more than just monsters. You’ll need to salvage scrap metal and forgotten blueprints from sunken ruins to craft reinforced harpoons, specialised bait, and vital medicines.
    • Upgrade Your Vessel: Trade your terrifying catches to cryptic local merchants (including a duo running a bait shop perched on the back of a literal giant crab) to upgrade your hull, fuel up, and prepare for worse threats.
    • Real-Time Combat: The nightmare doesn’t stop at the shoreline. Twisted aberrations will actively attack you both on the water and on foot, turning routine resource runs into frantic fights for your life.

What’s Included in the Steam Playtest?

The exclusive limited preview gives players a hearty taste of the atmospheric tension Dream Dock has been brewing. The playtest introduces several brand-new features never shown to the public before, including:

    • Dynamic Day/Night Cycle: Exploring under the sun is tense enough, but when darkness falls, horrific tentacle attacks rise from the depths to hunt your boat.
    • Tactile Environmental Puzzles: Tune radios to the correct frequencies, use lockpicks to breach restricted areas, refuel generators, and solve water-flow puzzles to survive.
    • The Mastery System: Unlock new crafting recipes as you adapt to the harsh environment.
    DREADMOOR PC System Requirements (Recommended)
    --------------------------------------------------
    OS: Windows 10 or higher
Processor: Intel i7 8700 or higher
    Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT
    Storage: 60 GB available space
    DirectX: Version 11

Cast Off Before It’s Too Late

DREADMOOR is currently slated for a full release in Q4 2026, which makes this surprise public playtest the perfect opportunity to see if you have the stomach for the mutated deep.

The Steam Ocean Fest playtest is live starting today, but it won’t stay afloat forever. Head over to the DREADMOOR Steam Page, hit “Request Access” for the playtest, and see if you can survive what’s waiting beneath the waves.

Are you brave enough to take the helm, or are you staying firmly on dry land? Let us know in the comments below!

  • MEDIX: Saving Lives Amidst the Chaos – Public Playtest Now Live!

MEDIX: Saving Lives Amidst the Chaos – Public Playtest Now Live!

In a genre typically defined by conquest and the pursuit of a higher kill count, a new indie title is asking players to do something radical: put down the sword and pick up the bandages.

Buldozer Production has officially launched the first public playtest for MEDIX, their hand-drawn medieval RTS, as part of the Steam Medieval Fest. Running from April 20 to April 27, 2026, this playtest offers a first look at a strategy game where the win condition isn’t victory on the battlefield—it’s the survival of those caught in the crossfire.

    A Different Kind of Strategy

Developed by Prague-based artist and developer Josef Šmíd, MEDIX places you in command of the IXth Medical Unit of the Imperial Army. Your mission is set against the backdrop of a desperate military retreat. While the “heroes” of traditional RTS games are pushing forward, you are the one cleaning up the mess, rescuing the wounded, and managing a mobile field hospital under constant enemy pressure.

Key features of the playtest include:

    • The First Two Missions: Experience roughly 40 minutes of gameplay that introduces the core loop of rescuing, treating, and evacuating soldiers.
    • Minimalist Mechanics: Instead of complex tech trees, MEDIX focuses on high-stakes decision-making. Every second spent upgrading a tent is a second not spent dragging a soldier to safety.
    • Hand-Drawn Visuals: The game’s distinct art style provides a haunting, intimate look at the human cost of medieval warfare.

“This is the first time MEDIX is playable by the wider public. Right now, the most important thing is understanding how intuitive the game mechanics are and what truly resonates with players,” says developer Josef Šmíd.

    Why You Should Play It

Most RTS games treat soldiers as expendable resources. MEDIX flips the script, making every individual’s life feel heavy. The tension doesn’t come from a dwindling gold mine, but from the sound of approaching enemy drums while you still have three patients who can’t walk.

As part of the Steam Medieval Fest, the playtest is completely free to download. The developers are also actively seeking player feedback via an in-game form to help shape the final balance before its planned release on PC and Mac later in 2026.

    How to Join the Frontline

Ready to test your triage skills? Here is how to get involved:

    1. Head over to the MEDIX Steam Page.
    2. Click “Request Access” or download the demo/playtest build directly from the storefront.
    3. Play through the first two missions and share your thoughts with the dev team.

The playtest ends April 27, 2026. Don’t miss your chance to experience one of the most unique takes on the medieval era we’ve seen this year.

Are you a fan of narrative-driven strategy, or do you prefer the traditional “build and conquer” style? Let us know in the comments!

Gloria Victis Resurrected: Public Playtest Kicks Off This April

The gates of Stoneholm are swinging wide once again. After a hiatus that left a medieval-sized hole in the hearts of PvP enthusiasts, the cult-classic MMORPG Gloria Victis is making its grand return. Under the new stewardship of publisher gamigo, the realistic open-world epic is gearing up for a major revival, and you’re invited to the front lines.

From April 20 until April 27, Gloria Victis will hold a Public Playtest as part of Steam’s Medieval Fest. Whether you’re a veteran commander or a fresh recruit, this is your chance to shape the future of a legend.

What to Expect: A New Chapter

When the original servers went offline in 2023, many feared the unique blend of Mount & Blade-style combat and PlanetSide 2 territory control was gone for good. However, gamigo and the original developers have teamed up to bring it back—now as a Free-to-Play title.

Key features returning in this build include:

    • Skill-Based Combat: No “tab-targeting” here. Success depends on your timing, distance, and direction of attack.
    • Massive Siege Warfare: Non-instanced territory control where you build your own guild castles brick-by-brick and defend them against hundreds of players.
    • Player-Driven Economy: From the sword in your hand to the bread in your pack, almost everything is crafted by players.
    • Risk vs. Reward: The innovative partial loot system in high-stakes zones ensures that every victory feels earned and every defeat has stakes.

The playtest isn’t just about bug hunting; it’s about glory. Participants will be eligible for exclusive rewards that carry over to the official relaunch.

  • FALLENSTAR: The Corporate Dystopia Roguelike That Demands Your All

FALLENSTAR: The Corporate Dystopia Roguelike That Demands Your All

In a world where progress is measured in human sacrifice, one corporation seeks infinite energy on a hostile alien planet. This is the premise of FALLENSTAR, the upcoming sci-fi roguelike-metroidvania from NebulaVoid Interactive that’s set to challenge your skills and question your duty.

If you’re a fan of punishing combat, permanent progression, and a gripping dystopian narrative, it’s time to suit up for a one-way trip to Planet 347TH2-Terminus.

    What is FALLENSTAR?

At its core, FALLENSTAR is a fast-paced action game that fuses the challenging, run-based nature of a roguelike with the interconnected, upgrade-driven exploration of a metroidvania.

You play as one of Aetherion’s many expendable agents, deployed to the ruined corporate wasteland of Planet 347TH2-Terminus. Your mission is to recover fragments of “Project: Red Sun” to forge an infinite energy source. But on a planet that’s already consumed countless agents before you, your onboard AI, Cora, seems to prioritize the mission over your survival.

Key Mechanics: Survive, Fail, and Repeat

This game is all about commitment, practice, and the cycle of death and rebirth that only a great roguelike can deliver.

    The Roguelike-Metroidvania Loop

Every deployment is a gamble, but every failure brings you closer to success.

    • Permadeath (Run-based): You will die. A lot.
    • Permanent Progression (Metroidvania): Crucially, you bring permanent upgrades back to your ship’s hub. This persistent progress, combined with the procedural map generation, makes each new run feel like a fresh attempt with a slightly stronger foundation.
    • Explore & Unlock: Venture deeper into the hostile world, unlock new paths, and gradually master the environment.

    Class Variety and Tactical Combat

You’re not locked into one playstyle. FALLENSTAR offers Class Variety, allowing you to choose a different agent each run. This means you can experiment with unique skills, weapons, and abilities to find the perfect synergy for your current deployment.

Combat is described as fast-paced and unforgiving, rewarding sharp reflexes, smart positioning, and clever gadget use. You’ll need to adapt quickly to lightning-fast boss fights and merciless encounters if you want to make it back to your ship alive.

The Corporate Grind (With a Twist)

In a chilling reflection of the game’s dystopian setting, the corporation benefits from your struggle. Every shot fired and every gadget used in the field feeds back into the HDC’s research, unlocking new tech and upgrades for your future deployments. Even your failed agents leave behind a chance: you can recover their bodies to bring back their belongings for progression.

    The Story: Obedience or Rebellion?

The atmosphere is thick with corporate decay, visualized through haunting pixel-art landscapes. The narrative isn’t just window dressing—it’s a crucial element that forces you to choose between your duty to the cold, calculating corporation and your own values.

NPCs on the planet, along with your onboard AI, Cora, will offer aid, information, or outright lies. Who do you trust? In a collapsing system built on obedience, uncovering the truth behind “Project: Red Sun” might be the most dangerous mission of all.

    Final Verdict (Awaiting Release)

While a full release is still on the horizon (expected Q1 2026), the premise of FALLENSTAR is incredibly compelling. It promises the addictive loop of a roguelike, the deep exploration of a metroidvania, and a gritty, thought-provoking sci-fi narrative that uses its mechanics to reinforce its themes.

If you’re looking for a challenging, stylish action-platformer that rewards skill and persistence, keep this one high on your wishlist.

  • Navigating the Cosmos for Profit: An Early Look at Stellar Trader

Navigating the Cosmos for Profit: An Early Look at Stellar Trader

The final frontier has always been a place for explorers and warriors, but in the upcoming Stellar Trader, it’s the merchants who truly hold the keys to the galaxy. Developed by ParaVerseLab and published by Spiral Up Games, this new sci-fi, strategy-sim is promising to put the “X” in eXploitation and eXchange, offering players a deep dive into interstellar commerce, politics, and power.

From Rustbucket to Riches: The Core Gameplay

At its heart, Stellar Trader is an ambitious space trading simulator set hundreds of years after humanity has taken to the stars. You start small—a “rustbucket” freighter—and the goal is simple: buy low, sell high, and work your way up to a colossal megaship.

This isn’t just about simple point-A-to-point-B trade runs, though. The galaxy features a living, breathing economy where you can:

    • Master Planetary Economies: Exploit regional shortages or even strategically stabilise entire systems through smart logistics.
    • Work the Black Market: Discover illicit opportunities for maximum profit, but with maximum risk.
    • Customise Your Fleet: Your trade vessels are fully customizable with crew, modules, and systems, allowing you to prepare for long-range jumps or fend off pirates.

More Than Just Cargo: The Strategic & Narrative Layers

What makes Stellar Trader stand out is its blend of economic strategy with broader galactic influence and personal narrative. You won’t just be a spreadsheet warrior; you’ll be a force in the galaxy:

    • Political Puppet Master: While you might not start wars, your wealth and control over supply lines allow you to shift political balances and tip the scales between rival powers. Form alliances, pull strings, and become a “Lord of War” through economic influence.
    • Build & Expand: Claim orbital space and construct your own space stations and colonies. Managing these supply chain hubs allows you to guide the development of worlds and further expand your reach.
    • Slice of Life Stories: The game promises a strong narrative layer with personal storylines, unforgettable characters, romance, and even puzzles to solve in ancient ruins. The galaxy is a canvas for your personal adventure, not just a marketplace.

Should You Get Ready to Trade?

If you’re a fan of space-faring games like Elite Dangerous or EVE Online but have always wished for a deeper, more focused tycoon and management experience, Stellar Trader is a game to watch. It truly seems to be aiming for the ultimate fantasy of a galactic merchant, where economic power is the ultimate weapon.

The blend of core trading mechanics with strategic 4X elements and character-driven narrative suggests a game with massive replayability and a focus on player freedom. Keep an eye on the stars—and the trade ticker—for this one!

What kind of freighter would you customise first: a heavily armoured transport or a nimble black market runner? Let us know in the comments!
