New Gameplay Trailer For Resonant Q

Resonant Q is an upcoming third-person cosmic horror survival action game that has recently garnered attention for its unique “energy-as-life” mechanics and dark sci-fi world-building. Developed by Japan Productions—a studio comprised of veterans from Square Enix, SEGA, and the Silent Hill franchise—the game is slated for a 2026 release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The Setting: A Dying Orbital Ring

Set in a future where Earth has been decimated, players take on the role of Volts, seasoned warriors who must ascend a collapsing Orbital Ring (often referred to as the “Ringworld”). The environment is a haunting blend of industrial megastructures, bioluminescent wetlands, and ruins of alien civilisations.

The narrative is crafted by Steve Parker, a veteran writer known for his work in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, ensuring a story rich in “hard” sci-fi and unsettling cosmic horror.

    Core Gameplay: Energy is Everything

Unlike traditional shooters, where health and ammo are separate concerns, Resonant Q centres on a Single Energy System. This system governs:

    • Life Support: Your oxygen supply depends on your remaining energy.
    • Combat: Firing weapons and using abilities drains the pool.
    • Exploration: Tools like scanners and detection systems require power to reveal enemies stalking you in the dark.

This creates a high-stakes risk-reward loop. Players must venture from their base—a slum settlement at the foot of a space elevator—to scavenge resources and “Anomalies” on the Ring, then extract before their suit’s energy expires.

    Key Features

    • 1–3 Player Co-op: Play solo or with friends. In co-op, the tension increases as you must decide whether to share your dwindling energy with a teammate or save it for your own extraction.
    • Base Evolution: The “Slums” serve as a persistent hub where players can upgrade vendors, craft gear, and prepare for the next “RUN” up the elevator.
    • Hero Customisation: Players choose from different “Volts,” each with bespoke skill trees and playstyles.
    • Atmospheric Horror: The game transitions between high-octane action and slow, tense survival horror depending on the environment and the “anomalies” you encounter.

    Current Status

As of January 2026, Japan Productions has recently released a gameplay trailer showcasing the game’s responsive gunplay and decaying environments. While a specific release date has not been set, it remains one of the more anticipated indie titles for the year, supported in part by an Epic MegaGrant.
