Empire Fallen, Guns Loaded: Sci-Fi Extraction Shooter ‘Omen’ Hits Steam This August!

Get your battle gear ready, gamers—there’s a thrilling new entry entering the extraction shooter arena!

Indie game developer Codex Interactive has officially announced that their debut title, Omen, will be making its grand launch on Steam on August 11th, 2026. If you love high-stakes sci-fi combat, tactical looting, and intense wave defence, this is one indie release you’ll definitely want on your radar.

    What is Omen?

Omen is an action-packed top-down sci-fi extraction shooter set in the chaotic aftermath of a collapsed galactic empire. The galaxy is in ruin, lawlessness reigns supreme, and survival depends entirely on your tactical skill, resourcefulness, and firepower.

Players step onto the war-torn battlefields of lost worlds, where every run is a high-risk, high-reward gamble. Your main objective? Infiltrate, loot, defend, and extract.

Key Features to Look Out For:

    • Top-Down Extraction Gameplay: Scavenge valuable tech, ancient artefacts, and vital resources from ruined futuristic landscapes—but make sure you actually survive long enough to bring your loot home.
    • Dynamic Wave Defence: You won’t just be looting and running. Players will need to shore up defensive fronts and build up fortifications to hold off relentless waves of hostile forces.
    • Deadly Factions: The galaxy is brimming with danger. Prepare to face off against opportunistic space pirates, ruthless traitors looking for an easy score, and savage cultists worshipping the remnants of the fallen empire.
    • High-Stakes Combat: Every choice matters. Build your loadout, set up your defences, and know when to push forward—or when to cut your losses and evacuate.

    The Debut of Codex Interactive

Debut titles from passion-driven indie studios often bring fresh, innovative twists to established genres, and Omen looks to deliver a unique blend of extraction mechanics with top-down defensive strategy.

Will you rise from the ashes of the empire, or become just another victim of the galaxy’s darkest corners?

Omen launches on Steam on August 11th, 2026. Head over to Steam to add it to your wishlist and prepare for deployment!

  • Command the Stars: Egosoft Drops the Massive 9.00 ‘Empire Update’ for X4: Foundations

Command the Stars: Egosoft Drops the Massive 9.00 ‘Empire Update’ for X4: Foundations

Space sim fans, it is time to fire up your jump drives. Egosoft has officially deployed the 9.00 Empire Update for X4: Foundations, and calling it “massive” feels like an understatement.

As the largest rebalance and feature drop in the game’s history, the Empire Update touches every single aspect of your galactic enterprise. Whether you are a solo fighter pilot, a logistics tycoon, or the commander of a sector-spanning fleet, this free update completely changes how you build, fight, and manage your empire.

Here is a breakdown of the major overhauls now live in the X-Universe.

The Biggest Combat Rebalance in X4 History

If combat felt a bit predictable in the past, get ready to rethink your tactics. Egosoft has completely rebalanced over 200 weapons and turrets, 90 shields, and more than 200 ships.

    Under-the-Hood Improvements

    • Organic AI & Turret Precision: Turret accuracy has been vastly improved, and AI pilots now fly with more personality. Depending on their skill level, enemies will actively use strafing and evasive manoeuvres to throw off your aim.
    • Capital Ship Might: Destroyers are now much better at utilising their main batteries, and large ships are no longer easily picked apart by swarms of tiny scout ships. Heavy armour and shields are finally the powerhouse options they were always meant to be.
    • S and M Ship Facelifts: Engines and shields are now physically integrated into S and M ship models, which doesn’t just look incredible—it drastically increases loadout variety, even letting different factions swap modules.

Take Control with RTS-Style “Priority Orders”

Managing a fleet during a chaotic sector-wide battle used to require a lot of micromanagement. The 9.00 update fixes this by introducing a highly requested feature: Priority Orders.

Using simple hotkeys (CTRL + Right Click). You can now issue immediate commands that instantly override a ship’s current queue. Need a freighter to drop everything and grab a nearby lockbox, or a fleet to immediately pivot and defend a collapsing flank? You can now command your assets with rapid, real-time strategy responsiveness without erasing their complex, pre-planned behaviours.

Dynamic Mining & The Kha’ak Recycling Economy

The galactic economy is shifting beneath your feet. A complete overhaul of the Resource Area System means sectors are no longer static mining pools. Resources are now heavily localised, and once a sector’s pocket is depleted, new nodes will emerge elsewhere in the region. Your mining fleets will actually have to scout and adapt to a changing geographic landscape.

    Turning Wrecks into Riches

Tired of the Kha’ak constantly harassing your miners? Now, you can turn them into profit.

New Mechanic: Players can now scrap S and M-sized Kha’ak wrecks to produce Allographyne—a highly versatile new ware. When combined with Nividium, Allographyne acts as a “wildcard” resource in production lines, dynamically transmuting to replace whatever components you are missing. It’s the perfect way to bypass frustrating industrial bottlenecks.

    Showrooms and Coherent Faction Identity

For the collectors out there, 9.00 introduces the Ship Showroom station module. You can now build dedicated landing pads and showroom complexes purely to display your favourite S and M-class ships.

Furthermore, NPC factions have received a massive intelligence boost when it comes to station construction. Instead of sprawling, chaotic station eyesores, the AI will now build and expand using predefined blueprints. This gives faction space a much cleaner, visually impressive, and lore-friendly aesthetic.

    UI and Quality-of-Life Upgrades

To tie all these massive systemic changes together, the map screen and main UI have received a sleek visual pass to improve readability without sacrificing the deep, data-rich menus X4 veterans love. Target selection has also been streamlined, introducing a cleaner hierarchy so you can target a capital ship as a whole before precision-clicking its surface turrets and shield generators.

    The Verdict

The 9.00 Empire Update is proof of Egosoft’s incredible, long-term dedication to X4: Foundations. By fixing long-standing combat inconsistencies, deepening the economic loop, and handing players better tools to manage their fleets, the universe feels more alive, dangerous, and rewarding than ever.

The update is free and live right now. Safe flying, commanders.
