The spiritual successor to the cult-classic Episode I: Racer is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it’s promising to be much more than just a trip down memory lane. This is a high-stakes, “racing adventure” set in the lawless Outer Rim, where the fall of the Empire has left a vacuum filled by gambling, syndicates, and a desperate need for speed.
More Than Just Podracing
While the return of Podracing is the headline act, Galactic Racer expands the garage significantly. Players will master four distinct classes of vehicles:
- Podracers: The high-speed, high-fragility icons of the Boonta Eve.
- Speeder Bikes: Agile and perfect for tight, technical tracks.
- Landspeeders: Heavy-duty machines built for shunting and durability.
- Skim Speeders: Versatile crafts designed for varied terrain.
The game introduces a new protagonist, Shade, in a story-driven campaign. You’ll navigate the underground Galactic League, working with your mechanic, Hibi, to upgrade your ride while dodging the influence of the underhanded Kestar Bool.
Tactical Speed: The Ramjet System
Forget simple “hold button to go fast” mechanics. Galactic Racer features a two-phase boost system. The second phase, known as the Ramjet, offers terrifying speeds but generates massive heat. Run it too long, and your vehicle will literally explode. You’ll need to use the environment—like the cooling waters of the tropical planet Lantaana—to manage your temperature if you want to stay in the race.
