Today, indie developer After1mage 1nteractive has officially pulled back the curtain on its debut title: SoulStream Saga: Chapter 1.

This JRPG-inspired journey isn’t just a love letter to the classics; it’s a bold attempt to evolve the genre’s DNA. Even better? You won’t have to wait long to get your hands on it. A prologue demo is scheduled to launch on Steam by the end of March 2026.

A World Divided by Magic and Science

Set in the capital city of Alestria, SoulStream Saga explores the fallout of a century-long conflict between Mages and Alchemists. While both factions claim to fight for a better future, the ordinary citizens are the ones caught in the crossfire.

You step into the boots of Astarius Valcrest, a former Mage who turned his back on his title to study the forbidden art of alchemy. His goal? Unity. Armed with Alchaeon, a blade infused with both magic and science, Astarius seeks to prove that the two worlds can—and must—coexist.

Tactical Combat with a Twist

The game features a Shared ATB (Active Time Battle) system that moves away from static turn-based fighting and emphasises timing and pressure. Key features include:

Elemental Stances: Shift Astarius’s affinity on the fly to exploit enemy weaknesses.

Casting & Interrupts: High-level spells take time to charge. Strategic players can interrupt enemy casts to turn the tide of battle.

Adaptive AI: Enemies don’t just mindlessly attack; they evaluate the battlefield to heal, buff, or disrupt your party based on the current situation.

What to Expect in the Prologue Demo

The upcoming demo serves as a standalone prequel to the main story. It places you in control of a maximum-level Astarius during the height of the war that shaped Alestria. This “power trip” approach allows players to experience the full depth of the combat system and all unlockable skills right from the start.

Note: As a project developed by a core team of just three people, the developers are actively seeking player feedback during this demo period to help polish the final experience.
