Released on February 14, 2026, the Survival Mode Update is a direct response to the community’s call for a more flexible, sandbox-style experience. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest evolution of the game.
1. A Brand New Way to Play: Survival Mode
The biggest addition is the eponymous Survival Mode. While the original campaign has been rebranded as Story Mode, Survival Mode offers a “Quick Play” experience with:
- No Fixed Objectives: No quests, no star-seeking—just raw survival in the wilderness.
- Drop-In/Drop-Out Accessibility: Say goodbye to room codes. You can now easily join sessions or have friends hop into your world seamlessly.
- Randomised Spawns: Every session feels fresh as you’re dropped into the map to find your own path.
2. Gear Up: Refactored Backpack & Storage
Managing your prehistoric pockets just got a lot smoother. The Backpack Refactor introduces:
- 3 New Weapon Slots: You can now carry more tools of the trade simultaneously, meaning you won’t have to choose between your favourite bow and that trusty flint axe.
- Increased Stability: The team addressed the “jittery” physics, ensuring your items stay where you put them.
3. Feel the Bite: bHaptics Support
For the immersion junkies, Neolithic Dawn now features full bHaptics integration. If you have a haptic vest, you’ll actually feel the impact of a bear’s swipe or the rumble of a mammoth stampede. It’s arguably the closest you can get to the Ice Age without a time machine (and with significantly less actual danger).
4. Valentine’s Treats: The “Lovestruck” Pack
Since the update dropped on Valentine’s Day, the devs included some festive flair. You can now customise your hunter with:
- The “Lovestruck” Hat: A heart-shaped arrow through the head (a cheeky nod to a certain “arrow to the knee” meme).
- Pastel Pink Hair: Stand out in the tundra with a dash of colour.
5. Quality of Life & Map Expansions
- Merged Saves: You can now jump between single-player and co-op using the same save file. Invite friends into your solo world whenever you need a helping hand.
- Saugeen Bluffs Expanded: One of the most popular maps has been pushed further out, revealing new territories and mammoth spawn points.
What’s Next? According to the 2026 Roadmap, this is just the beginning. The Base Building Update is slated for June, which will finally allow us to construct permanent homesteads anywhere in the world!
