Stalemate in the Mud: Take Command in ‘Dig In’

The year is September 1914. The rapid manoeuvres of late summer have evaporated, replaced by a grim reality that no one saw coming. The “War of Movement” has died in the face of machine-gun fire and heavy artillery. From the Swiss border to the North Sea, the race is over. The lines are drawn.

Now, there is only one thing left to do: Dig.

Vitar Games has just unveiled Dig In, a brutal and methodical WWI Trench Warfare Colony Sim that tasks you with surviving the transition from mobile warfare to the agonising stagnation of the Western Front.

Hold the Line, Build the Future

In Dig In, you aren’t just a general moving units on a map; you are the architect of a subterranean city. Your sector is your responsibility, and as the autumn rains begin to turn the French countryside into a quagmire, your enemies are just as likely to be trench foot and dysentery as they are the opposing army.

    Key Gameplay Features:

    • Complex Trench Architecture: Design intricate systems of fire trenches, communication lines, and saps. Proper drainage isn’t just a luxury—it’s the difference between a functional squad and a flooded grave.
    • Morale & Logistics: Manage the psychological toll on your men. Ensure the “rum ration” arrives on time, letters from home are delivered, and the duckboards are kept above the water line.
    • The Technology Gap: It’s 1914. Tanks are a fever dream and planes are for scouting. You rely on bolt-action rifles, primitive grenades, and the sheer grit of your men.
    • Dynamic Fog of War: Use periscopes and night raids to peek into “No Man’s Land.” The enemy is often only 50 yards away, yet they remain a terrifying mystery until the whistles blow.

A New Breed of Colony Sim

What sets Dig In apart from your standard base-builder is the sense of claustrophobia. Resources are finite, and the world above the parapet is certain death. You must balance the need for better fortifications with the constant demand from High Command to launch “minor” sorties that rarely result in anything but a casualty list.

“We wanted to capture that specific moment in September 1914 where the world realized the war wouldn’t be over by Christmas,” says the lead dev at Vitar Games. “It’s about the ingenuity born of desperation.”

    Will You Survive the Winter?

As the leaves turn and the first frosts hit the Oise and the Aisne, your leadership will be pushed to the limit. Can you keep your men warm, fed, and ready for the inevitable counter-attack? Or will your sector become just another nameless stretch of mud in the history books?

Dig In is available now for early access. Grab your shovel, keep your head down, and remember: The shovel is just as important as the rifle.

  • The Ottoman Front Awaits: WW1 Gallipoli Launches May 21st!

The Ottoman Front Awaits: WW1 Gallipoli Launches May 21st!

Move over Western Front, there’s a new theatre of war in town. BlackMill Games, the historical maestros behind the acclaimed WW1 Game Series, have officially sounded the charge. The next major instalment, Gallipoli, is set to storm onto PC and consoles on 21 May 2026.

The announcement comes with a poignant timing, landing just ahead of Anzac Day (25 April). To mark the occasion, the developers released a stunning new trailer that pays tribute to the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) and the sheer scale of the campaign.

A New Front in the Great War

While previous titles like Verdun and Isonzo focused on the muddy trenches of Europe and the vertical heights of the Alps, Gallipoli shifts the lens to the Middle Eastern Front. Players will find themselves thrust into the gruelling Ottoman campaigns, choosing sides between the British Empire and the Ottoman forces.

    Key Features to Expect:

    • Iconic Beach Landings: Experience the tension of rowing to shore in fragile boats under heavy fire—an authentic recreation of the landings at Anzac Cove.
    • Diverse Environments: Fight through sun-baked deserts, coastal dunes, and war-torn urban locations across the Gallipoli Peninsula and Mesopotamia.
    • Historical Authenticity: As per BlackMill’s signature style, expect period-accurate weaponry (including “jam tin” grenades), uniforms, and maps designed with meticulous historical detail.
    • Full Crossplay: Whether you’re on PC (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, you’ll be able to join the same 50-player battlefields from day one.

    Honour and Realism

Jos Hoebe, founder of BlackMill Games, emphasised the weight behind this project:

“Ahead of ANZAC Day, our new trailer aims to shine a light on ANZAC Cove, a battlefield we’ve carefully brought to life in-game. It’s a setting that carries real historical weight, and we hope to encourage reflection on the events that took place there.”

For fans of tactical, squad-based shooters, Gallipoli looks to be the deepest dive into the Great War yet. The game will launch at a competitive price point of £24.99 ($29.99 / €29.99).

    Ready to Enlist?

If you’ve spent the last few years scaling the mountains of Isonzo, it’s time to trade your climbing gear for sand-resistant boots. You can already add Gallipoli to your wishlist on your platform of choice to stay updated before the May 21 deployment.

Are you ready to storm the Dardanelles, or will you stand firm in defence of the Ottoman soil? Let us know in the comments!
