2019 was a year of good smartphones but the hype seems to even go higher in 2020. You expect to get the usual handsets from the likes of iPhone, Oneplus, galaxy, Huawei, Motorola all the way to Sony plus their advanced versions. This is to mention but a few phones, of course, the list could go a long way. We expect to get phones with better phone contracts and super new features such as improved cameras, speeds, phone displays, etc. Let us look more into other details that you should expect from smartphones this year!
- Smarter Software
We saw google assistant, Alexa, and Siri getting improved over the years up to 2019. In 2020 we expect these improvements to go to greater heights. Phones should work smarter in terms of the apps to use next and figuring out the most useful functions that will be useful for us. The phone operating system should be able to learn our habits and save us from the struggles of scrolling and swiping through the screen all the time looking for what we want.
- Innovative Features
Current smartphones make calls, take photos, run applications, are dustproof, waterproof, and have improved charging systems. Our hopes in 2020 are to see more innovative features incorporated in our smartphones. A good example is a popup selfie Cam found on the Oneplus 7 pro and the motion sensor feature found on Pixel 4. Phones are expected to have even more intuitive features in 2020.
- Working Foldables
Let us look back to the Huawei Mate X and the Samsung Galaxy Fold that was announced in 2019 but never made it successfully into the market. This year we expect to have foldable that will work their way through the market. Manufacturing a folding phone is, of course, a hard thing but with the technology improvements that will come on board this year, it will be easier. We already have been given a clue of how it will be by the remodeled Motorola Razr that is being rumored to be working on a folding phone. We are hoping for good jobs to be done by these big brands.
- Improved Battery Life
Thumb up to Apple iPhone that managed to give us a phone with extended battery life in 2019. The manufacturers should be looking forward to giving us even more battery life in 2020. Users don’t mind the thickness or the weight of the phone if it means keeping the charge for a long time. So many phones don’t last longer than a day keeping their battery fully charged. This is because the manufacturers want to keep their phones so light and thin without minding any other thing. We hope that in 2020, the manufactures will be keen on making a few adjustments to the current phones and give us longer-lasting batteries.
- Pocket-friendly pricing
The more a smartphone falls in the top end category, the pricier it becomes and you need to spend quite an amount of money to get it off the shop. Users would be very happy if Apple, Sony, and Samsung could consider making more affordable versions as well. We expect to get more competitively priced phones with some outstanding features even if they will have slightly inferior specifications. We expect Google to launch Pixel 4A this year. The biggest question is whether manufacturers will consider setting the prices of their high-end phones lower at the expense of their specifications. We are hopeful and if it will not work out then we expect a broader range of price points to choose from especially offers on phone contract.
