In 1965 Frank Herbert created Dune, a fantastic science fiction adventure that is centred around the planet Arrakis and its desert wasteland, that just happens to be the only source of melange (spice) a drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities.
The story was made into a spectacular movie in 1984 and followed up with the mini-series Children of Dune in 2003. Today the story is retold in a new adaptation of the original story. In the trailer, it appears that the new Dune has given new life to the story using modern techniques to bring the Dune universe to life.
“Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name. A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Denis Villeneuve’s vision of Dune is planning on being in cinemas in December, but who knows, things change and maybe we will be visiting Dune from home, either way, this is one movie well worth watching.
