Walk or drive? Shower or bath? Daddy or chips? There are plenty of dilemmas that we face on a daily basis, but few are as polarising as which mobile phone system you should choose: Android or Apple?
If you’re weighing up whether to get a Google device or the latest iPhone, here are some of the benefits of each to help you decide.
Why get an Android?
Thinking it might be time to trade in your iPhone and go Google? Here are a few things that might help make up your mind.
Open systems
Android is open source, which makes it far more accessible to developers and makes it the OS of choice if you don’t want to be hamstrung by apps that ca only be provided by Apple.
For example, you can download the Kindle app to your Apple device, but you won’t be able to purchase new reads while you’re there. Haven’t got enough time on your hands to find out every little app workaround? Android might be the one for you.
Price
You’re buying the brand and the fashion statement as much as anything with an iPhone, so that drives up costs.
If you’re only interested in a tech-packed smartphone, there are several Android-using manufacturers out there that can give you what you want at a fraction of Apple’s prices.
Battery life
Android devices are typically fitted with bigger batteries than their Apple contemporaries.
While performance between the two is fairly even nowadays, that greater room for manoeuvrability paired with Google’s myriad power-saving options means you’ve probably got more chance of making through a full day without reaching for a charger if you have an Android device.
Why get an iPhone?
Not convinced an Android is for you? Here’s why you’re best off sticking with the iPhone.
The ubiquity
At any given time over the past decade, around half of UK mobile owners have texted, taken calls and surfed social media using an iPhone.
Gradual tweaks to the devices and OS over the years means most people are familiar with using an iPhone, as well as being registered for services like the App Store, meaning if you aren’t there already, there’s every chance you’ll go back.
Better security
iPhones are deemed to be much safer than their Android counterparts, with that open source tech that we previously mentioned playing a big role.
If keeping your data under lock and key is a major consideration for you, it’s probably best you go for an iPhone.
Resale value
That long-standing popularity and market domination means if you are upgrading, it’s likely you’ll get more for an Apple device compared to an Android equivalent.
Whether selling privately or back to your phone company, having an iPhone could open up your options a bit further down the line.
Android. iPhone. Which one will you go for?
