In recent years, the change in the uses and consumption of athletes has raised a question: is it possible to take cannabinoids according to the regulations in force? Is it a good idea to use CBD during amateur sports activities?
Athletes have always been attentive to nutrition, health and well-being of the body, which is why they were among the first to be informed about the applications of cannabidiol in sports.
Let’s recap: what are CBD, THC and the endocannabinoid system?
We will tell you more about it all. But, if you want to learn more about CBD oil for sport and yoga, click here.
CBD and THC
There are about 100 recognized cannabinoids, among which the only psychotropic identified is THC tetrahydrocannabidiol (both Delta8 and Delta9), and the most widespread on the market is CBD / cannabidiol.
CBD is not psychotropic, but in recent years scientific research has identified in this molecule an active principle that man (and not only) can benefit from for various problems deriving from a malfunction of the nervous system. Other cannabinoids that are drawing attention as particularly useful are CBG and CBN.
THC and professional athletes
THC is still considered doping. However, the sports federations are evaluating the decriminalization of the use in competitions according to the country of origin and the legalization process.
Therefore, for the use of full-spectrum CBD oil, the official offices will respond when the historical moment is ripe, being a matter brought to the attention of the media even by Snoop Dogg.
CBD and sport
On the other hand, the use of CBD for athletes of all levels has been cleared of customs since the World Anti-Doping Agency lifted the ban on the use of CBD in sports in 2018.
The list updated on 19 September 2017 and effective from 1 January 2018 removed Cannabidiol (CBD) from the list of prohibited substances: “Cannabidiol is no longer prohibited […] however, the cannabidiol extracted from the cannabis plant may also contain variable concentrations of THC, which remains a banned substance”.
This modification allows the athlete to use CBD, without problems, as a palliative and anti-inflammatory without incurring an addiction to other pain medications.
Cannabidiol in sports: is it a good idea?
A team of French and Belgian doctors collected information about the different properties of cannabidiol (CBD) and how they can be applied in sport in the article “Cannabidiol in sport: is it a good idea?”, published in “Science & Sports”.
The perspectives are manifold. In fact, “the pre-clinical studies on CBD have shown anxiolytic, analgesic, anti-flu, neuroprotective and sleep-inducing effects. These properties could be of interest in managing injuries, concussions, anxiety and sleep disturbances.
Even though – the article reports – CBD appears to be a safe molecule, there are unwanted side effects, especially for unregulated products.
We have expressed our opinion on the need for product regulation in other fora, where a market that exists regardless of the commercial category, still absent today, must be regulated.
Hemp and grow shops, supermarkets and pharmacies exhibit CBD-based products without reliable certifications since the full-spectrum is prohibited in food and cosmetic products, transferable only for collection purposes.
CBD is an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever
According to a study conducted at the University of New Mexico, “the average cannabis user experiences a momentary reduction in pain intensity of about 3 points on a pain scale of 0 to 10 following cannabis use”.
Reduction of pain and inflammation
One way CBD can be beneficial in the world of sports is its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. The intense sporting practice could cause chronic inflammation and muscle and joint pain.
Improvement in the recovery of muscle fibres
With physical effort, the muscle fibres tear, and micro-tears of the tissue occur, causing inflammation. When the body enters the recovery phase, the anti-inflammatory effect of CBD is a good ally.
CBD has the potential for performance improvement
We are sure that the best CBD oil, such as the one you can find at Justbob.shop, facilitates an improvement in the person’s psychophysical state and, consequently, in sports performance. It remains to be seen if this point is correct or just a consequence of the other benefits of this oil.
